The Seattle Times is seeking a creative, motivated, and positive self-starter who thrives in a self-managed work environment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced project manager with a proven history of streamlining processes coupled with leveraging resources and budget.
A Project Manager at The Seattle Times is accountable for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. Determines appropriate project delivery methodology and utilizes tools and best practices to communicate project schedule, deliverables and status to stakeholders. In this position, the individual will lead efforts in purchasing business applications, services and software following vendor management practices.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Partner with stakeholders to define project scope, goals, deliverables, roles and responsibilities.
• Define and assemble project team and guide team direction and project outcomes.
• Lead the definition of project tasks, sprints and resource commitments.
• Manage and communicate project plan, budget, timelines and resource status to all direct and in- direct stakeholders.
• Utilize tools and methodology best practices to track project deliverables and mitigate risk.
• Implement change management process and communication protocol for stakeholder decision making.
• Facilitate discussion, decision making and conflict resolution.
• Improve team’s engineering practices and tools as needed to gain efficiencies.
• Foster a team environment of creativity and empowerment leading to self-organized team.
• Remove impediments and obstacles that prevent team from reaching delivery goals.

Requirements Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor of Arts or Sciences with Technology degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Three years’ experience in Information Technology with a history of added responsibilities and degree of difficulty. Technically proficient. At least three years of proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget using multiple methodologies. Process and workflow optimization experience a plus.
• Understands technical and management systems across multiple platforms and applications environments, including mainframe, client/server, and open systems. Incorporates new technology and tools quickly to improve productivity.
• Ability to communicate effectively within and outside the company to meet business needs and foster positive business relationships.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to facilitate discussions among users, managers, and executives in both the technology and business areas.

There is a moderate degree of pressure in the job as the project manager must meet project schedules and respond to needs of individual team members to ensure they have clear assignments and abilities to meet agreed upon due dates. The project manager regularly deals with a variety of problems requiring a high degree of tact, patience and judgment. There is frequent contact with stakeholders, business partners as well as consultants, and vendor representatives. This job takes place in an office environment. Good working conditions, requiring normal safety precautions and minimal physical effort. Extensive use of personal computing equipment.
