The Seattle Times is excited to announce an immediate opening for a Newspaper Plateroom Operator. This unique role operates the Newsway plate imaging software, computer-to-plate (CTP) imagers, G&J plate processors, and NELA plate benders and sorting stations. Successful candidates must be comfortable meeting all deadlines for daily and commercial printed products. In addition, this individual should:

  • Identify and correct equipment malfunctions, troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Communicate accurately with multiple departments.
  • Maintain proper level of supplies.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Complete daily production reports.
  • Address other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Experience: At least one year of working experience, preferably in manufacturing/industrial position. Willing to train right candidate for this unique role.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of plateroom equipment preferred.
  • Ability to meet multiple daily deadlines.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 45-pounds.
  • Preference for previous electric pallet jack/forklift experience.

This position requires union-mandated dues and a pre-employment drug screen for controlled substances, including marijuana.
