The Visual UX Designer position is perfect for a design professional with a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates range and talent in UX design and research. The Visual UX Designer collaboratively develops high-quality user experiences for new and existing digital products.   • Translates business goals, user needs, design direction and operational requirements into effective user experience strategies
  • Designs the UI architecture, interaction flow and functional user interface for content-rich, customer-facing websites and mobile apps
  • Performs competitive design and product experience research including heuristic evaluations. Plans, moderates and synthesizes user research studies.
  • Brainstorms creative concepts and iterates quickly through design cycles
  • Creates user scenarios, task flows, original visual design concepts/mockups, wireframes, prototypes, iconography systems, graphic files, UI patterns and development specifications
  • Applies usability findings, customer input, site analytics, audience data and other UX research information to design activities
  • Advocates for useful, usable and desirable user experiences and articulates user experience issues and concerns to stakeholders and design partners
  • Collaborates with product, content, consumer insights, data analysis, marketing, news and development teams for design reviews and handoffs in a sprint-cycle environment
  • Helps maintain and contributes to the pattern library; creates and adheres to brand and design style/interaction guides
  • Communicates conceptual ideas and design rationale to design partners and stakeholders. Provides and responds to constructive feedback from design and project team partners and leadership.
  • Researches and identifies evolving design innovations and opportunities, and is comfortable innovating in a quickly evolving news media industry
Requirements
  • Minimum 2+ years professional experience as a user experience designer, visual UX designer or similar role
  • Portfolio of interactive design work that demonstrates experience creating a range of user experience design deliverables and highlights both functional and visual design capabilities
  • Experience designing user-friendly interactive solutions for websites and mobile apps, preferably content-rich, consumer-facing experiences. News media and subscription-oriented experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with user research techniques, including moderated 1:1 user testing and remote surveys
  • Strong conceptual skills, a critical eye for detail and the ability to translate complex concepts into successful design/messaging solutions
  • Strong visual design skills in typography, layout, color and use of imagery
  • Knowledgeable about web standards, accessibility and browser compatibility
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (Sketch, Invision, Visio, etc.); expert user of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) Experience Design, After Effects and light video editing tools a plus.
  • Skilled at designing within technology frameworks and with standard web technologies such as HTML and CSS. Familiarity designing and working with WordPress preferred.
  • Experience working within an Agile and/or Lean Development environment. Familiarity with JIRA a plus.
  • Preferred: Degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction, user-centered design, web design, visual design or comparable professional work experience
