Description The Seattle Times is seeking a Press Operator at its North Creek Facility in Bothell, WA!

The Press Operator will set up, operate and maintain the newspaper press in a timely, accurate and cost effective manner. This individual will monitor ink densities, meet deadlines, analyze equipment problems and implement solutions. Work with other team members to achieve quality, customer satisfaction and productivity while minimizing expenditures and waste. Keep press area clean and assist in employee training/development. Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift requirements may be day, swing, or night shifts including weekends. Overtime may be required on any given shift. More than one shift in a 24-hour period may be required depending on business needs.

Primary Functions and Duties:

• Prepare and operate multi-unit, web-fed rotary offset printing press (with cylinders). Clean inking rollers with environmentally safe cleaner and replace them in press.
• Lock plate on printing cylinder and thread loose end of paper supply roll through and around rollers to folder.
• Re-thread paper through press if web breaks and re-adjust tension rollers.
• Set ink and fill ink canisters which requires carrying ink-filled buckets on main floor and to upper levels at the start of the shift and from then on as needed to maintain supply.
• Inspect and lubricate moving parts of press.
• Clean ink hoses and rails with rags and cleaner.
• Plate up press at beginning of run and replate chasers and makeovers during run. Strip plates at end of run.
• Clean blankets, plate cylinders and units at end of run.
• Process color. Make ready ink rails and purge colors into rails. Set color and registration from console work station.
• Load rolls of newsprint into press.
Requirements Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three to four years of offset press training.
• Ability to work as a team.
• Occasional moderate or heavy physical exertion.
• Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
• May be required to work overtime or long hours.
