The Seattle Times is actively seeking a data-centric, passionate Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst II. The BI Analyst II is a critical position responsible for driving insights for The Seattle Times across all aspects of the business.  Reporting to the Business Intelligence Manager, this role involves performing business analysis and creating dashboards for cross-departmental teams. With requests from every business discipline, you need to be personable, service-oriented, deadline-driven, self-motivated, and passionate about improvement. As part of the Innovation, Product and Development Team, the BI Team adopts the same values and strives to build trust throughout the organization, constantly improve, and always focus on the big picture to re-imagine journalism’s future. This role is for you if you are a collaborative person who possesses knowledge of web analytics, database querying, dashboard visualization and basic programming.

Responsibilities

• Produce consistent, relevant data insights to help guide the business via accurate reporting, dashboards, analysis, and custom-built tools as needed.

• Use a variety of tools including Google Analytics as well as internal and external research resources to aggregate data trends and insights.

• Coordinate, deploy and ensure the accuracy of standardized periodic reports, automating the process as appropriate.

• Serve as the primary resource for audience analysis and performance results for digital products.

• Monitor industry trends and implement best practices to improve in-house capabilities.

• Establish and maintain partnerships and synergies with other information and analytics teams, including but not limited to Advertising, Circulation, and Finance departments.

• Work closely with the developers, analysts, product managers, and report writers to ensure the right data is captured and reported accurately.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a BI Analyst.

• BA/BS in Business, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or relevant analytical discipline.

• Strong communication skills required – process documentation and communicate your findings.

• Working knowledge of e-commerce, SEO, SEM, email and other online marketing optimization activities.

• High attention to detail is required, as is the ability to recognize, troubleshoot and correct problems.

• Experience with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics.

• SQL skills are required and previous experience with Big Query a plus.

• Use of a visualization tool such as SSRS, Tableau, QlikView, or Data Studio.

• Advanced Excel skills, including complex spreadsheets, pivot tables, and data manipulation.

• Automation skills with Python or BASH a plus.

• Comfortable with Agile Methodologies a plus.
