Description Come build a data-informed culture to support locally owned, independent, public-service journalism. The Seattle Times is seeking a seasoned manager to lead its business intelligence engineering, analytics and research team.

The preferred candidate will have multiple years of experience in a business intelligence, analytics or data science leadership role in a media, ecommerce, or subscription-based online entity.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, a developer of people, a collaborator among teams and a fluent translator of quantitative and qualitative analysis into actionable recommendations.

Must love the mission and purpose of journalism. The position reports to the Vice President of Innovation, Product & Development.

Lead and coach a small team of research and data analysts dedicated to providing qualitative and quantitative research analysis and modeling.
Be a productive, hands-on manager of your own research analysis as a player-coach.
Work across the organization to frame, structure and prioritize business problems.
Communicate insights to stakeholders across company and recommend areas for further discovery.

Requirements Required:
5+ years of experience, with at least 3 in a management capacity.
BA/BS in Business, Engineering or related analytical discipline.
Expert-level proficiency in Web analytics tools such as Google Analytics (preferred) or Adobe Analytics/Omniture; SQL and relational database experience; dashboarding tool proficiency in Tableau, Qlikview, Google Data Studio, or similar; Excel master; strong R and Python skills
A/B Testing experience using Optimizely, Website Optimizer or similar.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be comfortable presenting complex analysis and insights to diverse audiences – executives, newsroom journalists, advertising sales representatives and circulation directors.
Experience with open-sourced solutions and cloud architecture

Data science and statistical background, including regression analysis, predictive modeling, Bayesian methods, recommendation systems and machine learning techniques.
Data warehouse and database building experience.
Experience in either ad-based media business models, subscription models, and/or ecommerce systems.
Interest in building a systems dynamics model.
