Position Title: Caseworker/Hana Pono’i Instructor
Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time Employee. 40 hours per week
7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday w/ 30 minutes unpaid lunch

GENERAL DUTIES: The Family Services Office Caseworker/Hana Pono’i Instructor will provide intake and follow up of applicants seeking financial and material assistance. The Caseworker/Hana Pono’i Instructor will be required to provide general office support and participate in special projects.

SUPERVISION: The Caseworker/Hana Pono’i Instructor will work under the direct supervision of the Family Services Director. Each employee of The Salvation Army is expected to work with all clients, agency partners, and other Salvation Army staff in a professional manner at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS: General
1. High school diploma with at least two years of extensive practical experience.
2. A valid Hawaii Driver’s License
3. CPR training

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Bachelors of Arts degree in a social services related field (e.g. counseling, psychology or social work)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Conduct interviews with applicants to determine eligibility.
• Assess and process applications for financial assistance.
• Provide appropriate referrals to applicants who cannot be served.
• Recommend case plans for applicants.
• Data entry.
• Conduct client follow ups.
• Maintain program files and forms.
• Submit/upload check requests for timely payments.
• Conduct scheduled community outreaches.
• Assist the Director in compiling monthly reports for TSA internal use and funding requirements.
• Keep oneself up to date with current programs, available/relevant community services.
• Assist walk-in applicants requesting food or clothes.
• Purchase items at food bank site.
• Sort and bag canned food for distribution on food pantry days.
• Conduct Financial Literacy class as needed.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires verbal and written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendors; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests; requires giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Use office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work hours are conducted inside an office. Clientele will come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. On a regular basis, community outreaches at encampments, parks and shelters are scheduled which will require the use of sunscreen or sun protection as these may be periods of exposure under the sun. Attendance at trainings, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, is required.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS
Annual evaluations will be conducted a minimum of once a year by the Family Services Office Director with a 90-day probationary evaluation performed after hire. Additional appraisals may be scheduled more frequently by the Director or as requested by the employee as a result of job performance or change of duties.
