POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Dining Hall Coordinator
STATUS: Temporary
SUPERVISOR: Program Director & Assistant Program Director
SCOPE OF POSITION: Provide supervision, support and motivation for dining hall service and support; ensuring efficient operation and cleanliness of the dinning hall and dish room. Lead count and maintain records for Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma/ GED minimum requirement
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Have a valid Driver’s License
• Hold a current Food Handlers permit, to be on file in the kitchen and camp office
• Previous food service experience preferred
• Prior leadership experience preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dining Hall Lead Duties:
• Supervise the Dining Hall and Service Support staff in their duties in the operation of the dining hall and dish room.
• Coordinate Dining Hall and Service Support staff to assist on serving line.
• Lead in the operation & efficient workflow of the dish room.
• Coordinate daily & weekly cleaning of dining hall, dining hall bathrooms & dish room.
• Plan and implement a rotation schedule for wait staff between the dining hall and dish room.
• Perform daily Summer Food Service Program counts at each meal.
• Assist in any area of kitchen or dining room, as requested by the Food Service Manager.
• Assist to unload, move and store any dining hall, kitchen, food or cleaning supplies.
• Lead and support dining hall service and support staff in devotions and spiritual guidance.
• Provide support and motivation for dining hall service and support staff.

General Duties:
• Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways in campers and staff.
• Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
• Work alongside and in agreement with the Divisional Youth Leaders, other divisional officers and special guests as directed.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers and campers.
• Encourage adherence to camp & Salvation Army policies and procedures.
• Ensure and provide for the supervision and physical/emotional safety of campers and staff.
• Will be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor at least once during the season.
• May be requested to drive or accompany hospital transport of camper or staff.
• Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as required e.g. chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
• Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of your cabin and outside area.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the program director, Divisional Youth Secretaries or camp director.

• Ability to lift/unload/move food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage location; use kitchen equipment safely; operate electrical equipment and mechanical equipment; maintain appropriate inventory of food and supplies; operate dishwasher while maintaining appropriate temperature; determine cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces and kitchen area; assess condition of food

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• There may be phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.
• May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to, the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility, and grounds.
• The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment.
• Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
• Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
• Works around dust, odor, and high noise levels.
Working conditions --equipment used:
• Dishwasher
• Kitchen equipment. *Will abide by and practice Oregon Labor Laws when working, including use of equipment, depending on age.

MISCELLANEOUS:
The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.
The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
