DEPARTMENT: Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen
POSITION TITLE: Summer Camp Program Lead
STATUS: Temporary
SUPERVISOR: Youth Program Specialist & Divisional Youth Secretaries
SCOPE OF POSITION: To assist the Youth Program Specialist with program needs of the summer camp program.
• High School Diploma/ GED minimum requirement
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have valid Driver’s License
• At least two seasons camp experience or youth work equivalent
• Prior leadership experience preferred


Program Duties:
Under the direction of Youth Program Specialist and Divisional Youth Secretaries:
• Assist with designing, planning and implementation of the summer camp program.
• Communicate regularly with the program administrative team to ensure the successful execution of program elements.
• Assist with the programming and leading of daily chapels, campfire and recreational activities.
• Assist with creating a weekly staff schedule and work assignments for summer staff and volunteers.
• Assist with first day and last day procedures including camper check in/out, registration paperwork intake, lice check and driver release.
• Coordinate the Flag Assemblies prior to every meal, including time keeping, assigning staff to lead songs, assigning cabins to raise/lower the flag, and ensuring campers are released to meals appropriately.
• Assist in and schedule/coordinate resources for electives, cabin activity, and free-time options including: support counselors/guests in sign-ups/assignments, locations, supplies and preparation.
• Assist in, and on occasion lead, weekly/daily staff meetings regarding program and operations, weekly debriefs, and planning for the next week.
• Oversea and implement ways that the program can meet the physical and emotional safety needs of campers and staff; maintain a safe environment and program as established by camp policies.
• Assist in the supervision and insure the proper clean-up of entire camp each week.

General Duties:
• Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways in campers and staff.
• Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
• Assist with the implementation of summer camp staff orientation, including volunteers and guest staff.
• Work alongside and in agreement with the Divisional Youth Leaders, other divisional officers and special guests as directed.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers and campers.
• Encourage adherence to camp & Salvation Army policies and procedures
• Ensure and provide for the supervision and physical/emotional safety of campers and staff
• May be requested to drive or accompany hospital transport of camper or staff
• Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as required e.g. chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
• Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of your cabin and outside area
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Youth Program Specialist, Divisional Youth Secretaries or camp director.
• Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrated commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in spiritual leadership.
• Needs an understanding of Salvation Army policy in regards to hiring, termination, workers’ compensation matters, time sheets and the Employee Handbook.
• Must have good understanding of the laws regarding employment of minors in Oregon.
• Needs an understanding of contacting pertinent officials in regards to reporting child abuse.
• Ability to supervise and provide guidance to staff and campers
• Ability to assist in creating unique, fun and safe games and activities for campers
• Responsible individual with a desire to work with youth
• Must possess leadership skills, with the ability to plan, originate, organize and execute special programs

• May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to, the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility, and grounds.

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.
The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
