Description POSITION: Mental Health/Substance Abuse Specialist
SUPERVISOR: Railton Place Program Director
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full time – 40 hours/week

OVERVIEW: The Mental Health/Substance Abuse Specialist will work closely with the Program Director and case managers in order to identify, screen and access potential program participants, including conducting assessments relative to their mental health and substance abuse needs. This position is responsible to provide both counseling and program services to the clients in transitional youth and adult population.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:

• MA/MSW degree required preferably licensed and/or certified in substance abuse counseling.
• A demonstrated knowledge of alcoholism/chemical dependency and a 12 step program.
• Experience in individual and group counseling.
• 2 years clean and sober if in recovery.
• Knowledge of community resources and linkages to Substances Abuse Recovery and Mental Health communities.
• Respect and concern for the diverse population.
• Ability to maintain highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
• Detailed oriented, and be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team.
• Ability to work in MSWord and Excel computer programs.
• Strong organizational/office skills.
• Command of the English language and excellent verbal and written skills.
• Demonstrated clear and effective communications skills.
• Maintain good rapport and communication with other staff members, corps personnel and the public.
• Knowledge of Salvation Army programs, practices, policies and organization desirable.
