POSITION SUMMARY:
The Art Instructor encourages creative expression while nurturing artistic abilities. He or she monitors and educates participants on art technique, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

The Art Instructor will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. College degree in Art, Art History, Communications, Education, or related field.
2. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people in a positive and productive manner
3. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
4. Teach art classes to students of all ages.
5. Provide a fun and safe instructional environment.
6. Provide corrective and positive feedback to students to ensure learning and a positive atmosphere.
7. Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new participants with class procedures. Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner. Able to answer questions and interact with students and parents.
8. Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time.
9. Have all instructional equipment ready before lessons begin and put all equipment away at the end of lessons.
10. Communicate regularly with participants.
11. Assist in set-up of end-of-session Art Exhibits.
12. Ensure students have pieces prepared to display in the Art Exhibits.
13. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
14. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
15. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

The position requires talking to co-workers and clients and may require written communication or email to and from co-workers and clients.

Must have the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. Must have the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor, air-conditioned room with chairs on which to sit or room to stand.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Students may be required to purchase their own supplies.

CLEARANCES:
