Position Title: After School Program and Summer Day Camp Youth Assistant

Status: Part-Time

Education and Work Experience:
1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Students in good standing in high school/home school will be considered.

2. Work/Professional Experience: A minimum of 1-year experience working with Children ages 5-16 years of age.

Scope of Position:

The After School Program and Summer Day Camp Youth Assistant will provide supervision and lead activities with children between the ages of 5-12 registered in these programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Ability to speak in a large and small group situations
• Must be congenial and be able to work with difficult children
• Demonstrate skill in written and verbal communication
• Demonstrate skill in decision making.
• Must have a valid Idaho State Driver’s License and have or obtain a Class C CDL license within 60 Days of employment.
• CPR/First Aid/AED Certification at time of hire or ability to be certified within 30 days of hire date.
• Ability to work well with limited supervision
• Strong organizational skills
• Time Management Skills
• Problem Solving Skills.
• Ability to cope with stressful/unusual situations
• Knowledge of the Bible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist Children with Homework
• Can communicate sensitively and compassionately with children, parents and staff regarding any concerns, positive behavior, or areas needing improvement.
• Be attentive and work to ensure all children are safe, comfortable, and included.
• Can plan, coordinate, and implement age appropriate activities in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates good character, cooperation, attitude, and good work ethic.
• Implement appropriate disciplinary actions, and can ensure that the Protect the Mission policy is observed in all situations.
• Maintain a professional and appropriate attituded and appearance.
• Clean and respectfully care for The Salvation Army’s facility and equipment.
• Can plan, prepare, serve and clean up after program meals. (which may include: breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner). Adhere to the Food Safety and Handling Guidelines
• Lead Bible lessons and Chapel times using Biblical principles that are in accordance with the Doctrines of The Salvation Army.
• Do all other duties associated with your job, and other duties as assigned, as requested by the Youth Director and the Commanding Officers.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:
The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, tolerate loud, noisy children, and participate in swimming/water activities. This position requires you to be on your feet frequently throughout the day. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead. Ability to operate a computer, fax, and telephone. Ability to lift a minimum of 40-50 lbs.


Immediate dismissal is possible for any of the following:
• Any violation of standards as outlined in the Employee Handbook
• Failure to report any accident immediately.
• Improper handling of Salvation Army Property and/or money.
• Reporting to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs that have not been prescribed by a physician.

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.
