Scope of Position:
To make sure donation bens are emptied and donation yard is picked up and clean at the beginning and the end of each workday. Check street side of warehouse and front of store for donations. Facilitate the movement of collected donations through the warehouse to the sales floor. The job may also include assisting the truck driver with making runs in the Thrifts Store Truck to make donation pick-ups and/or deliveries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Demonstrate a positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with general public in a courteous manner.
• Able to address multiple clients in a timely manner.
• Responsive, detail oriented.
• Ability to work as a team player.
• Ability to take directions from your immediate supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Please sweep in front of store (sidewalk & parking lot) every morning prior to opening of store

• Courteously assist Donors with loading and unloading of heavy items. Ask Donors if they would like a tax-deductible receipt for their donations. Properly fill out tax receipt. When assisting donors, you are expected to be very helpful to them, smile, make them feel welcome, and be friendly from start to end.

• Assist with the placement of items on the Sales Floor and Warehouse storage area.

• Courteously assist customers as directed while also asking to verify their receipt for the store load out. Properly load out furniture & get help if needed in order to not damage what you are loading out.

• Assist in the cleanliness and organization of the Warehouse and grounds ensuring a clean and safe environment. This would also include taking out full garbage cans (staging area & the one directly in front of store). Take up to the warehouse empty carts (and empty large shopping carts) from staging area which may also have empty banana boxes in them.

• Empty all Donation Drop Boxes to ensure that they are empty at the beginning and end of each workday.

• Break down and recycle boxes and containers that are not usable.

• Assist Driver with pick-ups, deliveries, dump, or metal runs as directed by warehouse supervisor.

• Watch donation yard to help avoid unwanted garbage donations & quickly respond to assist donors.

• Any other duties as may be assigned by your crew leader, Warehouse Supervisor, Operations Manager, or Corps Officer.

• Assist in maintaining good donor, customer, and co-worker relations. Keep a good attitude in check. It is of utmost importance that all employees be a good representation of The Salvation Army. You must also be very careful with what is said to co-worker, donors, and customers. Keep conversation positive, polite, and gracious. Our words have an effect on others. We prefer that it be a positive one.

The physical requirements of this position requires that you are physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, and stoop in order to do the essential functions of the job. Assist in maintaining the warehouse in a clean and safe environment. You are required to maintain the work schedule assigned unless you are directed to change it by your supervisor or Corps Officer. This position requires a high level of self-motivation. It is expected that you manage your time well, work as a team, and keep busy. You are expected to dress in a practical, clean, and neat apparel. Remember you represent The Salvation Army to the public. You are required to conduct yourself in a manner that is polite and consistent with the goals and mission of The Salvation Army.

This position has access to confidential and private information. It is essential that confidentiality and privacy be observed.

The chain of command at our organization is as follows: The Corps Officer is the Roseburg Salvation Army employee Director/Administrator. In many cases, there are two Corps Officers and both are in your chain of Command. In addition, we may or may not have Assistant Corps Officers. If we do, they could also in your chain of command but this will be clearly stated when you have your orientation. The next person in chain of command is the Operations Manager. Your immediate supervisor is the Warehouse Supervisor. Under his/her supervision, there may be a crew leader. In this case, the crew leader will be your immediate supervisor.

It is expected that each employee will be familiar with The Salvation Army Western Territorial Handbook for Employees. Questions regarding its contents can be directed toward the Immediate Supervisor or the Human Resources Coordinator.
