CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, On-Call, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Banquet Captain will oversee banquet functions and will assist in all management operations, including scheduling, training, and control. This position will operate according to established procedures and standards. The Banquet Captain will effectively understand, reflect, and lead the team in a manner that will reflect the mission of The Salvation Army and the vision of Kroc Center Hawaii.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Communicate effectively by reading, writing and speaking English.
3. Minimum one-year previous banquet or restaurant service experience.
4. Minimum 18 years old.
5. Have valid food handler card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
6. Exceptional leadership skills.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
8. Strong interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Report to work on time as scheduled, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays
2. Maintain a professional demeanor throughout events and in presence of guests
3. Make ongoing contribution to improve standard of excellence
4. Provide service that will emote the Aloha spirit
5. Work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
6. Work with minimal supervision, and in a team setting with other professionals
7. Exercise sound judgment
8. Take initiative with projects
9. Coordinate food service between kitchen and banquet service staff
10. Inspect all set up and ensure that it follows the Banquet Event Order
11. Enforce all rules and regulations of the center
12. Adhere to basic hygiene procedures and grooming standards
13. Ensure proper room sets for all events
14. Review and implement table and seating diagrams
15. Complete Banquet Captain report for each event
16. Complete strike list and closing inspection duties
17. Follow all health and safety regulations
18. Control and limit waste
19. Maintain banquet cleanliness in front and back of house
20. Assist in pre-service and periodic training
21. Manage inventory and operating materials
22. Attend required department and organization meetings
23. Be flexible and cooperative with last minute changes
24. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving
25. Communicate effectively by reading, writing and speaking English
26. Lead the Events team in a manner that will reflect the mission of The Salvation Army and the vision of Kroc Center Hawaii.
27. Perform other duties as assigned

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires verbal and written communication with co-workers, other departments, clients, and vendors.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position will work with a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, sun, heat); must be able to work indoors or outdoors; must be able to stand on feet and walk throughout the entire shift; must be able to frequently lift and carry 50-75 pounds, must be able to bend, squat, push, pull frequently; must be able to walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis; must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, squeezing, overhead reaching occasionally.

This position may have frequent phone and in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.

This position has access to confidential and private information. It is essential that confidentiality and privacy be observed.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office and cell), and 10-key calculator.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
TB Certificate
The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.
On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
