CLASSIFICATION: Part time, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Kitchen Administrative Assistant supports and assists the Kitchen Manager in kitchen operations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Committed to quality service, food and beverage knowledge.
3. Basic math skills.
4. Working knowledge Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
5. Aware of local, state and federal health and sanitation laws.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in culinary arts preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Answer phones, route calls, and take messages.
2. Maintain files, forms, and databases.
3. Make sure that both internal and external communications are handled in a professional manner. This includes: telephone, e-mail, written, and spoken communications.
4. Maintain sanitation/food safety procedures that exceed industry and regulatory requirements to ensure the highest quality food through proper storage, handling, labeling and dating.
5. Ensure proper receiving and storage of food products to comply with health department regulations. Receive food product, invoices and verify freshness and quality of food products.
6. Adhere to all cost and quality control procedures.
7. Write, maintain and update all menu specifications, recipes and production forecasts.
8. Assist in maintaining control of the food stores and kitchen equipment and assist with monthly inventory of these items.
9. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
10. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
11. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings, when required.
12. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

3. Able to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
4. Respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner and remain calm when resolving problems using good judgment.
5. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals.
6. Exercise good judgment and comfortable taking initiative with projects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25 pounds and occasionally more than 25 pounds. This employee must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays and special events as needed..

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking and written communication to co-workers, clients, vendors.
The Kitchen Administrative Assistant must have the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement and able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone, cell, PDA, and 10-key calculator.

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.
