PATHWAY OF HOPE CASE WORKER

Supervisor: Program Director
Position Title: Case Worker
Status: Temporary Hire; Non-Exempt, Full-time Employee. 40 hours per week for at least 20 weeks.
7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday w/ 30 minutes unpaid lunch

JOB SUMMARY: The Case Worker will work closely with the Pathway of Hope team and Aloha United Way to administer the Rent Relief and Housing Assistance Program; provide frontline services to those affected by COVID-19; conduct intake and follow up, process payments, refer clients to community resources, provide community outreach services; and support social services activities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in social services related field (e.g. counseling, psychology or social work) or a high school diploma with at least two years of extensive, practical experience in community-based work; a valid Hawaii Driver’s License, CPR training. Strong Microsoft Skills, especially Excel. The Case Worker must understand and support the work and the mission of The Salvation Army reflected in character, values and beliefs.

DUTIES:
1. Conduct intake of financial aid applicants and determine eligibility.
2. Interview and assist financial aid applicants to receive appropriate services.
3. Enter information in electronic data systems.
4. Create ledgers. Maintain records and assist in the timely preparation of reports.
5. Coordinate with landlords and vendors, process payments.
6. Actively participate in community outreaches.
7. Implement financial literacy sessions or refer to partner entities.
8. Refer clients to case managers, providers, community resources.
9. Maintain case files with privacy and confidentiality standards.
10. Conduct client follow-ups.
11. Distribute resources and information.
12. Attend community resource meetings.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

• May need to respond to crisis situations which requires de-escalation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by car or airplane.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking with people from various demographics; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendors; talking on the telephone; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Use office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc. Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills required.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work will be indoors. On a regular basis, community outreaches are scheduled which will require the use of sun protection as these may be periods of exposure under the sun. Attendance at trainings, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, is required.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS
Annual evaluations will be conducted a minimum of once a year by the Social Services Director with a 90-day probationary evaluation. Additional appraisals may be scheduled as a result of job performance or change of duties.
