The Salvation Army’s Community Relations and Development Department (CRDD) is seeking an experienced, clear, and persuasive communicator in speech and writing, capable of translating The Salvation Army’s programs and community needs into compelling narratives for foundations solicitation. The Grant Officer (GO) will perform a vital role in handling a significant portion of the grant writing workload entailed in the pursuit of pre-existing grant opportunities and assisting the Director of Philanthropy in developing strong concepts for the solicitation of new opportunities. The GO will work under direct supervision of the Director of Philanthropy and alongside Corps Officers, Program Managers, CRDD, and Finance personnel in collective endeavors to reach Development Department funding targets.

This is a non-exempt part-time position (25 hrs per week). Pay rate is $DOE/hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE but are not limited to:
• Solicit and cultivate current funding sources-foundations that have funded The Army within the last three (3) years
• Assist Corps and programs in identifying renewing and new funding needs and developing proposal and evaluation tools
• Provide prompt responses to internal and external information inquiries of the Foundations Department, via phone, email, or in person
• Apply for grants on behalf of The Salvation Army, a California Corporation, Alaska Division, particularly where invitations to do so have been extended, i.e. Rasmuson Foundation
• Maintain grant records, track due dates for applications and reports; serve as point person for grant compliance, assessing if programs and Corps are meeting expectations and timelines of grant awards

• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, communications, marketing or related field preferred; may substitute six (6) years of work experience in grant writing and program management for degree
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional writing experience, with preference for foundation grant-related work
• Familiarity with working with the public in a stewardship capacity preferred
• Ability to organize workload, exercise independent judgment, and maintain self-motivated and self-directed schedule
• Capable of addressing multiple projects in time-sensitive manner, taking initiative and remaining flexible to ensure objectives are met accurately and timely
• Committed to maintaining the integrity of confidential communications and/or activities
• Professional, courteous, cooperative, positive and effective with a diversity of individuals and groups
• Must complete and adhere to Protect the Mission (PTM) requirements and guidelines, including acceptable results on the background checks required by The Salvation Army for employment
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License with acceptable driving record required
