GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is a spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people.

RELIGIOUS SUMMARY: Although this position does not require or confer ordination, this is a “ministry position.” Only Christians with a demonstrated strong personal faith and agreement with the teaching of Holy Scripture as explained in The Salvation Army “Articles of War” and the “Handbook of Doctrine” will be considered for this position. Maintaining a lifestyle and witness consistent with the above stated documents is required for continued employment.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Children’s Ministry Assistant will provide administrative and secretarial support to the Children’s Ministry Director. The Children’s Ministry Assistant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Must be a high school graduate and have 2 to 3 years administrative assistant experience in a large church or corporate setting.
2. Ability to coordinate a multiple staff church department.
3. Ability to prioritize work and multi-task simultaneous projects.
4. Be cordial, friendly and professional in carrying out job responsibilities.
5. Have a comprehensive proficiency in the most current version of Windows, which includes Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel.
6. Demonstrates good judgment, resourcefulness, flexibility, attention to detail, and ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
7. Service-oriented team player who can take initiative, work independently and quickly adapt in a fast-paced environment.
8. Ability to read, write and speak English is required.
9. Have excellent interaction and phone skills.
10. Interact professionally and work well with other employees, community members, church attenders, and volunteers while maintaining the standards of The Salvation Army.
11. Be able to work with all ethnic and socio-economic populations. Possesses sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultural perspectives and the ability to work with diverse populations.
12. Have or obtain within 10 days a valid Hawaii Driver’s license and insured transportation.
13. Abide by Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and have an acceptance of Salvation Army philosophy and mission.
14. Able to work weekends/evening hours and must have willingness and ability to travel.
15. Ability to effectively understand, reflect, communicate the Christian principles, mission, goals, and strengths of The Salvation Army and The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
16. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
17. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
18. Strong motivational and management skills.
19. Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis.
20. Participation in other required trainings, like Protecting the Mission (PTM), on an annual basis.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (e.g. theology, biblical studies, business administration, religious studies), or equivalent experience, and 2+ years of related experience on a church staff.
2. Ability to type 70 words per minute or above.
3. Familiarity with traditional Salvation Army programs at the Corps and Divisional level.
4. Familiarity with Hawaii and local culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide administrative and secretarial service for the Children’s Ministry Director.
2. Assist the Children’s Ministry Director on Wednesdays (Wednesday Program) and Sundays (Children’s Worship), including, but not limited to:
a. Answering and responding to general inquiries about the Wednesday Program and Sunday Children’s Worship.
b. Complete any preparatory work that might need to be done ahead of time (e.g. communicate lesson plans, make copies, send emails, pick up supplies, prepare snacks, etc.)
c. Assist in scheduling volunteers and making reminder phone calls.
d. Assist in training volunteers.
e. Lead Children’s Worship classes on Sunday as needed.
f. Lead Wednesday Program classes (troops. creative arts, etc.) as needed.
g. Setup and operate CCB (Church Community Builder) check-in stations.
h. Setup and cleanup classrooms, ensuring that equipment and facilities are clean, well maintained, and safe at all times.
i. Ensure that children are supervised at all times, adhering to The Salvation Army procedures for Protecting the Mission.
j. Create a welcoming atmosphere for both child and parent, especially at check-in and pick- up times.
k. Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
l. Implement positive discipline when required.
3. Assist with Summer Camps, including, but not limited to:
a. Answering and responding to general inquiries from the community about Summer Camp.
b. Receiving paperwork and payment.
c. Following up on incomplete paperwork.
d. Transporting children to and from Camp Homelani.
e. Assist in following up with each camper and their family to integrate them into Corps programs.
4. Be a champion of the CCB church data software – ensure all Program Enrollment and Children Ministry Registration Forms are entered and updated.
5. Answer phones and respond to general inquiries about the church.
6. Assist with administrative duties for the annual Christmas Campaign.
a. Answering phones and responding to general inquiries from the community about Angel Tree and the Red Kettle Campaign.
b. Assist with data entry for Angel Tree.
c. Assist in scheduling volunteers and making reminder phone calls for Angel Tree.
7. Assist in other areas of the Angel Tree Program as needed.
8. Compose and type routine correspondence to all levels of employees, church members, community members, volunteers, donors, and Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) as needed.
9. Open mail, sort and answer routine correspondence.
10. Oversee the maintenance of calendar for Children's Ministry. Monitor programs that require input into RMS.
11. Collect statistical information from various RJKCCC programs.
12. Assist in preparing and processing monthly and quarterly reports (e.g. monthly Corps statistics, monthly troops report, quarterly youth report, quarterly giving report to church attenders/members, etc).
13. Set up office procedure and tickler files, which will ensure that each ministry event/project is followed to completion.
14. Assist with special church-wide events as assigned.
15. Carry out decisions and instructions given by the Children's Ministry Director in accordance with Salvation Army policy and procedures.
16. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
17. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office and cell), video projectors, sound-systems, microphones, audio-visual and lighting equipment, 10-key calculator, and automobile.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work will be at the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Kapolei, and in primary and secondary target areas of the Kroc Center located in West Oahu. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, and extended travel of three days or more.
