CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, On-Call, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Banquet Captain will oversee banquet functions and will assist in all management operations, including scheduling, training, and control. This position will operate according to established procedures and standards. The Banquet Captain will have the ability to effectively understand, reflect, and communicate the Christian principles, mission, goals, and strengths of The Salvation Army and The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Communicate effectively by reading, writing and speaking English
3. At least one year previous banquet or restaurant service experience.
4. Must be 18 years or older
5. Have valid food handler card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
6. Exceptional leadership skills
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills
8. Strong interpersonal skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
2. Maintain high quality control in repetitive tasks
3. Work with minimal supervision, and in a team setting with other professionals
4. Exercise sound judgment
5. Take initiative with projects
6. Coordinate food service between kitchen and banquet service staff
7. Inspect all set up and ensure that it follows the Banquet Event Order
8. Enforce all rules and regulations of the center
9. Adhere to basic hygiene procedures and grooming standards
10. Ensure proper room sets for all events
11. Review and implement table and seating diagrams
12. Manage all opening and closing side work
13. Complete event captain’s report
14. Complete strike list and closing inspection duties
15. Follow all health and safety regulations
16. Control and limit waste
17. Maintain banquet cleanliness in front and back of house
18. Assist in pre-service and periodic training
19. Manage inventory and operating materials
20. Assist with all reasonable barista support duties as required
21. Be flexible and cooperative with last minute changes
22. Ability to effectively understand, reflect, communicate the Christian principles, mission, goals, and strengths of The Salvation Army and The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.
23. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
24. Communicate effectively by reading, writing and speaking English
25. Perform other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee is required to work weekends and evenings.

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position will work with a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, sun, heat); must be able to work indoors or outdoors; must be able to stand on feet and walk throughout the day; must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; must be able to bend, squat, push, pull frequently; must be able to walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis; must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently, squeezing, overhead reaching occasionally.

This position may have frequent phone and in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office, cell, PDA), and 10-key calculator.

TB Certificate
The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.

On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
