Position Title: PT Merchandiser / Cashier
Department: Hanapepe Corps – Thrift Store
Supervisor: Corps Officers
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt- Part-Time 19Hrs.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Merchandiser / Cashier is responsible for producing items for sale,
keeping the sales floor stocked, clean and organized and assisting customers as needed. To open / close store, count out register before and after shift and running cash and credit sales on the register.

The Merchandiser / Cashier will acknowledge, understand and abide by the mission of The Salvation Army which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Hanapepe Family Thrift Store.

REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent
2. A minimum of three years working in a business/customer service work environment.
3. Exposure to and participation in the creative development, implementation and leadership of Salvation Army corps program
4. Knowledge of, and experience in, Salvation Army programs preferred.
5. Knowledge of desktop publishing, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Publisher.
6. Ability to work well with young people and adults.
7. Must be motivated, a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
8. Good communication skills a must- both written and oral.
9. Basic skills in operating office equipment (i.e. copiers, fax machines, etc.)
10. Must have a sense of cleanliness, tidiness and neatness.
11. Have an understanding of The Salvation Army standards, philosophy and policy and willingness to adhere to them.





ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



THRIFT STORE:

• Provide customer service to shoppers and/or donation drop off
• Running the register for cash and credit sales
• Assist those with vouchers from social services
• Provide donation receipts when needed
• Provide receipts for any and all donations when needed
• Assist with production, processing, sorting and staging in the store
• Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer
• Sorts, cleans, tag, and prices donations for sale
• Performs duties as clerk/cashier as needed
• Assists in the closing of the store and preparation of the next day’s cash till daily.
• Ensures the counter and cash register area is clean and kept free of clutter.
• Ensures only authorized personnel have access to the counter
• Place priced items on the racks and shelves in a timely manner
• Remove dated tags and separate for rag out
• Keep miscellaneous items organized and neatly arrange
• Keep clothing racks full, organized, and neatly arranged
• Receive donations brought directly to the store by the general public
• Assist with counting of cash each day as necessary
• Always act courteously on communication with donors and prospective donors.
• Other duties as defined by the store manager / Corps Officer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting; climbing and/ or balancing/stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more that 50 pounds; interacting with children.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
• The position requires speaking to co-workers, children, parents, vendors, customers, volunteers
• Requires written communication to and from co-workers, children, parents, vendors, customers, volunteers
• Requires visiting/working at other worksites;
• Requires communication via the latest technologies.



EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computer, point of sale kiosks, credit card machine, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone, microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator and automobile.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONEMT:
Most of work will be indoors at the Hanapepe Family Thrift store. Uniforms may be required; such as wearing TSA Hawaii apparel. Closed shoes are required during work hours.

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.
