POSITION SUMMARY:
The Massage Therapist’s primary responsibility is to massage clients to relieve discomfort and to ease muscle tension by manipulation of soft-tissue and muscles of the body; to relax overworked and tire muscles, to treat pain that results from any number of ailments, to aid in the rehabilitation of athletic injuries, and to support overall good health.

The Massage Therapist will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Massage Therapist License
2. 570 Hours of training from licensed school (AMTA, COMTA, Rolfing Institute) approved by Licensing Board
3. 18 years of age
4. High School Graduate or GED
5. CPR Certificate for both infant and adult
6. Previous Massage Therapist experience preferred
Full availability for any shift, seven (7) days per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Confers with members and guests to learn their medical history and what problems they may have with stress or pain to determine what type of massage would be the most beneficial.
2. Gauge the condition of the member’s or guest’s soft tissue, the joint function and quality, range of motion, and muscle strength. Propose a specific treatment plan for the member or guest.
3. Massage the soft tissues and muscle to provide the treatment that has been determined. Prepare and blend massage oils and apply them during the massage.
4. Provide consistent professional massage and body treatments in accordance with accepted certification practices.
5. Educate members and guests on how to improve their posture and teach them strengthening, stretching, and rehabilitative exercises as well as relaxation techniques.
6. Report to work on time and perform services within the appropriate time allocated for the service.
7. Provide accurate, appropriate and immediate responses to all requests by members and guests.
8. Maintain quality service by following Health and Wellness program standards
9. Provide Health and Wellness Director with appropriate records concerning participation, member information, etc.
10. Communicate to the Health and Wellness Director any and all occurrences involving members and guests that require attention.
11. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
12. Uphold the standards of sanitation and sterilization as required by law and Health and Wellness program protocols.
13. Respond to and report accidents and incidents to Health and Wellness Director.
14. Document maintenance needs and submit to Health and Wellness Director.
15. Attend staff meetings and training and maintain current licenses and certifications.
16. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
17. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires repetitive motion and standing for long periods of time.
In addition sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision;; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25 pounds and occasionally more than 25 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
Strong communication skills and a friendly, empathetic personality are extremely helpful qualities for fostering a trusting relationship.

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.
