POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager performs month-end closing procedures, generates financial statements, coordinates internal/external audits and implement policies, procedures & internal controls. The Accounting Manager will oversee accounting staff and review accounting entries. The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Associate Director of Finance & F&B.

The Accounting Manager will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
2. Experience with Shelby or other computer accounting software and/or spreadsheet applications, including Microsoft Excel
3. Experience with CCMS Recreation Management Software or equivalent
4. Experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs
5. Two years’ management experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Direct supervision of accounting staff & training as needed
2. Perform month-end closing procedures and prepare work papers for closing packets including bank reconciliations & clearing accounts
3. Coordinate & interact with Divisional Finance Personnel on a regular basis and annual audit requirements
4. Prepare schedules for internal & external annual audit
5. Assist Associate Director of Finance & F&B with annual budget preparation & implementation
6. Assist Officers, Directors and Managers with interpretation of financial statements, budgeting, and other financial matters
7. Help establish & implement Finance related policies & procedures and internal controls
8. Assist Associate Director of Finance & F&B with education & training of Managers on Financials & policies
9. Monitor cash balances, reporting and reconciliation
10. Monitor Finance safe funds with petty cash, change funds and various gift card inventory
11. Manage & resolve credit card disputes and inquiries

12. Function as Shelby and CCMS support back up
13. Perform other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors talking on the telephone; responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; training/giving verbal and written instructions; receiving verbal and written instructions; writing/composing written language; reading; visiting/working at other worksites; communication via the latest technologies. In addition, must be cordial, friendly and professional in carrying out job responsibilities and service-oriented team player who can take initiative, work independently and quickly adapt in a fast-paced environment.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
1. Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office, cell, PDA), and 10-key calculator.
2. Have a comprehensive proficiency in the most current version of Windows, which includes Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel.
3. Able to use new software program with basic training.


CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation and certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis.
