POSITION SUMMARY:
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for properly cleans and sanitizes all dishes, glassware, utensils and pots and for maintaining dish room and dish machine. Assists with cleaning other areas of the kitchen as requested.

The Kitchen Steward will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
No particular education or experience is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist with food prep as needed.
2. Washing and cleaning all utensils used for cooking and table service.
3. Wash pots and pans by hand using three compartment sink following proper dishwashing procedures.
4. Tear down dishwashing machine at end of each shift and thoroughly wash baskets, tanks, sprayers, and all parts in preparation for the next shift; change water every three hours depending on usage.
5. Set up bussing equipment around kitchen and banquet rooms.
6. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dishwasher area, refrigerator/freezer walk ins and storage areas.
7. Maintain cleanliness of all carts, food warmers and kitchen equipment.
8. Collect and dispose of all trash items daily.
9. Collect and dispose of all recycling material.
10. Retrieve all dirty flatware, glasses, dishes and banquet equipment.
11. Maintain all china, glassware and flatware and store in its designated area.
12. Sweep, mop and maintain all kitchen floors.
13. Empty all carts and place them in designated areas.
14. Attend to food service lines and dish up service, including maintaining an adequate supply of clean dishes and utensils; provide a constant supply of dishes and plates.
15. Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure; assist in all tasks relevant to the department as directed by your supervisor.
16. Communicate all guest requests to an appropriated supervisor in a timely and professional manner.
17. Respond in a courteous, professional and prompt manner to guest and staff requests.
18. Store, handle and label all hazardous substances according to guidelines.
19. See that all injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.
20. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
21. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires the ability to work in hot, wet, humid and loud environment for long periods of time and standing for long periods of time and lifting heavy baskets of dishes along with heavy pots and pans.

In this position, candidate may also be exposed to harsh chemicals and cleaners, such as oven cleaner and general cleaning solutions that help sanitize a kitchen area.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Dishwashing machine and all chemicals/solutions associated with dishwashing activities, mops, brooms, mop buckets, utility brushes, trash containers and sanitizing/cleaning solutions.
