POSITION SUMMARY:
The Health & Wellness Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the H&W Department. The H&W Manager will handle service recovery, customer relations, exercise leadership, quality and safety assurance and program management for this area. The Health & Wellness Manager will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school graduate or GED.
2. Three years of personal training and program design.
3. Three years of sales experience preferred.
4. Two years management experience or program management experience.
5. Personal Training Certification required (minimum of one): ACE, ACSM, NASM, NATA, NSCA.
6. Current CPR and First Aid certification (may be acquired after employment).
7. Experience in coaching/motivating groups & leadership skills.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Recruit, hire, train and develop a high-performance team consisting of, but not limited to, Health & Wellness Coordinator(s), fitness attendants, group trainers, personal trainers, massage therapists, and wellness consultants.
2. Conduct regular meetings with direct reports to review performance and offer direction, motivation and guidance toward achieving individual, departmental and center goals.
3. Make hiring, promotion, disciplinary, and termination recommendations

4. Direct Group Exercise program: identify program needs; research and recommend new class formats; coordinate class schedules; schedule, mentor and evaluate instructors
5. Identify and maximize opportunities to build awareness and wellness participation within the community through internal promotion and external partnerships
6. Utilize best practices learned from IDEA and IHRSA
7. Take the initiative in creating unique revenue generating programs to boost H&W revenues
8. Develop and lead revenue generating activities, including but not limited to: complimentary workouts, seminars, workshops, etc. and assists the membership team with fitness presentations as needed.
9. Work cross-functionally with membership and marketing teams to achieve member retention goals
10. Establish a safe, healthy, and community-focused environment that delivers high member satisfaction and progressive health outcomes and track and capture these success stories
11. Assist members and guests and encourages their involvement in fitness programs.
12. Strong interpersonal & communication skills. Able to generate, maintain & demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.
13. Possesses a strong member service focus. Responds professionally to requests and inquiries from guests, members and staff to ensure effective long-term problem resolution.
14. Provides oversight for the preventative maintenance program to ensure compliance to guidelines. Check facility and equipment for defects and schedule repairs. Discard defective equipment following established procedures. Provide guidance in equipment selection and replacement and make recommendations as warranted.
15. Lead every aspect of the daily cleanliness of the fitness facilities and locker rooms.
16. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies; submit purchasing requisitions as needed to meet operational needs while following budgetary guidelines and procedures for procurement.
17. Create and effectively communicate policy and procedure updates to members and staff, leading to positive guest experiences and operational consistencies.
18. Attend weekly and monthly team meetings.
19. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
20. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
21. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position required a high degree of energy, physically fit and have the endurance to complete the workout. Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting & prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business.

Most work will be indoors at Kroc Center Hawaii administration office. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Cardio and strength training equipment may be needed.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment.
Personal Training Certification required (minimum of one): ACE, ACSM, NASM, NATA, NSCA
The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.
On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
