POSITION SUMMARY: The Creative Arts & Education Assistant will assist the Creative Arts & Education Manager in duties related to arts and education programming at the Kroc Center Hawaii. This person must possess effective verbal and written communications, ability to multi task, and fill in as a leader or aide when scheduling requires.

The Creative Arts & Education Assistant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Have at least one year experience leading or assisting a creative arts or educational program or related field, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience in these areas.
2. Ability to effectively understand, reflect and communicate the Christian principles, mission, goals, and strengths of The Salvation Army and the vision of the Kroc Center Hawaii.
3. Must live a life of integrity and practice in their own life the Christian spiritual principles and behavior they advocate to children.
4. Must have a genuine holistic concern for children including their spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical well-being.
5. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
7. Strong motivational and leadership skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
1. Have successful experience in assisting program leadership as well as working with parents and volunteers.
2. Previous experience participating in or leading a fine arts program, including but not limited to music, art or dance, or education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist in the planning and daily coordination of creative arts and education programs and activities.
2. Assist in the training and monitoring of instructors, aides and volunteers. Will ensure that staff strictly adheres to The Salvation Army mission, the Kroc Center Hawaii vision, and the creative arts and education program policies and procedures.
3. Provide excellent customer service to all of the participants and their guardians, upholding the vision of the Kroc Center Hawaii.
4. Serve as initial point of contact for member inquiries; execute new student scheduling, orientation, and invoicing. Communicate scheduling additions or changes to instructors in a timely and consistent manner.
5. Maintain accurate program rosters; provide context for decisions related to program offerings and pricing. Reconcile payments between third party software and RMS; distribute and follow up on past due payments
6. Keep accurate monthly and yearly statistics; lead collection, organization and upkeep of registration files, attendance logs, emergency contact information, and liability waivers.
7. Work with instructors, education leaders and program aides to facilitate programs and other recreation activities with professionalism and passion according to training protocol and scheduled lesson plans.
8. 8. Fill in or assist instructors and education leaders in the classroom setting on an as needed basis. Provide support both at the Kroc Center and offsite for community outreach initiatives.
9. Work with Creative Arts & Education Manager to implement programming within or in addition to program guides, handbooks and other collateral pieces throughout the year. Update RMS with new class offerings.
10. Budget, plan and prepare supply orders for creative arts and education program activities.
11. Conduct regular inventory of all instruments, equipment and supplies. Follow policies and procedures to maintain approval of supplies and arrange replacement when necessary. Will maintain strict adherence to the budget.
12. Assist in coordination of field trips and participant team building activities, including selection of destinations in a safe and learning rich environment.
13. Handle disputes with participants, parents and staff in a professional, responsible and calm manner.
14. Complete reports to inform parents of any injury, behavioral issues, dispute, etc. Facilitate any needed and/or ongoing communication with parents or guardians.
15. Coordinate with outside vendors and specialty instructors as needed.
16. Attend all scheduled staff and management team meetings.
17. Perform other assignments/duties as assigned.

5. Must be able to exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
7. Respond to crisis situations in a calm and effective manner.
8. Must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work.
9. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals.
10. This employee will also be required to work weekends, evenings and have a flexible working schedule.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds.
COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Equipment: Proficient with current Microsoft software computer programs including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet, and standard office equipment and systems.
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis.
Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification required.
