POSITION: Homelessness Program Assistant
SUPERVISOR: Director of Good Samaritan Center
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

The Salvation Army Mission Statement:

The Homelessness Program Assistant:
• Provides a welcoming atmosphere and excellent customer service to our clients
• Conducts preliminary assessments of client needs.
• Refers clients to appropriate staff.
• Maintains basic services of Good Samaritan Center
• Maintains daily homeless statistics
• Acts as the initial point of contact: greeting clients, answering phones
• Monitors/assists all front desk services:
o Showers
o Laundry
o Set-up and breakdown of the multipurpose room - meals/events
o Food box distribution
o Gas Vouchers,
o Other hands-on duties
o Directs all incoming and outgoing client phone calls to the appropriate staff person.
o Under the supervision of Good Sam leadership, provides information and referrals:
 Appropriate community resources
 Appropriate Salvation Army programs
o Assists with deescalating troubled clients
• Assists in monitoring the interior and exterior of the facility.
o General clean-up of facility and grounds - keeping all areas clean and free of trash.
o Notifies the Director and Corps Officer of all safety issues and emergencies

• Office Duties
o Data entry:
 Food boxes
 Holiday client information,
 Daily homeless information
 Maintenance of all client files
o Prepares outgoing mail
o Prepares documentation for all donations and distributions of donated items
o Maintains front office bulletin board

• Driving duties, as needed

• High school diploma
• Valid California Driver License
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willing to take initiative
• Good organizational skills
• Able to work with a diverse group of individuals
• Able to multi-task and set priorities
• Excellent phone etiquette
• Able to maintain accurate client documentation and records
• High level of integrity and confidentiality
• Strong “team player”
• Consistent, fair and friendly
• Confident in meeting and relating to the public
• Work positively with staff members
• Able to work with MS Office software programs
• Able to work with limited supervision
• Able to manage demanding and difficult client situations
