Responsible for all food service duties including mass food preparation for daily consumption and special events for 291 clients. Promote and maintain food quality, proper inventory with compliance with heath and safety policies.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES: (not listed in order of priority)
Responsible for quality food preparation according to menu and food safety guidelines. Maintain proper inventory and food portion to support budget cost meal preparation. Provide Orientation to volunteers, community service workers and kitchen KP clients on kitchen safety and service. Enforce and maintain all Food Service, Health and Safety Code and OSHA policies. Ensure the cleanliness of dining hall, stainless steel and other areas of food service and production. Assist with deliveries to monitor accuracy of inventory. Monitor the reporting of all KP absences, tardiness and failure to comply with policy, to kitchen supervisor, adherence to program policy. Support Food Service Manager and other cooks to ensure daily food production duties are being completed, including cleanliness and organization of the pantry and equipment. Encourage client participants during KP duties. Maintain records and logs related to kitchen services. Perform pre-safety checks and routine inspections of food equipment, report major repairs or services needed and all emergencies, accidents or equipment breakdown immediately to Food Service Manage and Director of Operations. Establish and maintain effective and positive work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Perform all duties with courtesy and respect, maintaining a healthy relationship with the Manager, staff and clients. Follow weekly schedule and all other related duties as assigned.


Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work while standing for long periods of time during shift.


1. Must be a certified food handler under the California Safety Code 97-0071.
2. Preferred Culinary Arts degree and/or 2 years of food handling experience.
3. Ability to understand written information and keep accurate stats/inventory.
4. Must TB cleared & CPR and First Aid Certificate upon hire date
5. Microsoft Office applications and excel a plus.
6. Ability to place orders and calculate inventories for production.


1. Must have work experience in kitchen/food service, (knife skills, health, sanitary regulations, cooking skills and working with large equipment).
2. Ability to carry out assignments independently, maintain good rapport and communication with other staff members, clients and the public
3. Education or experience working with the homeless population
4. Excellent communication skills for interaction with Homeless individuals.
5. Strong work ethic, personable, dependable and must be efficient.
6. Must be able to work any shift and a signed schedule.
