CORPS/DEPARTMENT: Salvation Army Older Alaskan Program (OAP)

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

FLSA STATUS: Part-Time Regular Employee, (29 Hours or Less/week), Non-Exempt, $10.20/Hour

JOB CLOSES: August 15, 2020

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Congregate meals are a part of the Nutrition, Transportation and Support Program contract with Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and delivers services to clients of the Older Alaskans Program.  Services under this contract include meals, assisted transportation and homemaker activities. Congregate Meal Site Managers are responsible for the daily operations of a congregate meals site. 

DUTIES OF POSITION:

  1.  Ensure that all Federal, State and Municipal guidelines are met. These include but are not limited to:
    1. Ensure compliance with all food service, food code and sanitation guidelines and codes;
    2. Ensure current food service permit is posted;
    3. Post menus and publicize the congregate meal program;
    4. Ensure that the amount of food ordered is delivered;
    5. Ensure proper portion control is used at all times;
    6. Monthly, provide information on nutrition education;
    7. Provide, on-going opportunities for socialization and other programs;
    8. Requisitions needed supplies and maintains Inventory control;
    9. Assist with meal service as needed.
  2. Facility:
    1. Keep site and equipment in good working order; report needed repairs;
    2. Ensure site is safe and comfortable for seniors;
    3. Maintain an up-to-date bulletin board and other information;
    4. Ensure that proper cleaning and maintenance schedules are in place and carried out.
    5. Ensure phone use is appropriate;
  3. Service Access:
    1. Provide and document outreach to ensure that seniors are aware of the congregate meal site;
    2. Periodically, review access to the facility and report any problems to supervisor;
    3. Assist program participants by making appropriate referrals or providing assistance with referrals;
  4. Program Activities and Services:
    1. Solicit Input from program participants as to menus, activities and hours of operations. Assist in the distribution and collection of quarterly participant surveys.
    2. Plan and implement social and/or educational activities;
    3. Make contact with program participants who are absent for extended periods of time. Document contacts.
  5. Administrative policies, record keeping and program reports:
    1. Implement and observe a confidential process whereby program participants are able to co11trlbute to the program:
    2. Keep dally attendance records for meals and activities;
    3. Assure participants eligibility using the   client profiles for all new program participants with annual re-certification July of each program year;
    4. Account for contributions received for program participants;
    5. Maintain an organized filing system of all program Information and
    6. forms and be responsible for securing such Information;
    7. Keep Operations Manager informed, at all-times, of all activities relating to the meal site to include but not limited to licensure, health inspections, food order problems, participant problems, and the like.
    8. Provide supervision and training to assigned staff, volunteers and/or trainees.
    9. Coordinate all volunteer activities with Operations Manager to assure compliance with all TSA and other regulations;
    10. Submit all reports end requested Information in a timely manner;
    11. Participant in scheduled training activities and scheduled In-Service Training;
    12. other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School  diploma or equivalent;
  2. Direct working experience with older adults, preferred;
  3. Willing to work.with and serve clients with age-related limitations and other disabilities;
  4. Experience working with elderly in multicultural setting, as plus;
  5. Stable work history with minimum two years work experience where
    1. food service was the focus of the work.
  6. Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  7. Obtain and maintain basic First Aid, CPR and Food Service Certificates
  8. Must be able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to work independently with  minimal  supervision; be responsible, well organized and dependable;
  2. Ability to pass background investigation
  3. English language ability sufficient to understand and carry out Instructions and accurately complete required documentation.
  4. Participate in training to be able to assess client health and function
    1. at paraprofessional level.
  5. Additional related training as it becomes available

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis.  Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead.  Ability to operate a telephone.  Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.  Ability to access and produce information from a computer.  Ability to understand written information.  Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.  A qualified person with a disability may request a modification or adjustment to the job or work environment in order to meet the physical requirements of the position.  The Salvation Army will attempt to satisfy requests as long as the accommodation needed is reasonable and no undue hardship would result.
