The primary purpose of this position is to process items and attend to client needs in the Social Services office.
• Answer incoming phone calls.
• Screening and intake of clients for emergency services – prescriptions, gas vouchers, etc.
• Maintain a tracking report of food statistics and monitor the food pantry.
• Referral of clients to appropriate agencies for social services not provided by The Salvation Army.
• Keep current on what is available from other agencies that can assist with services.
• Enter client information in to the computer.
• Verify eligibility for type of assistance being sought.
• Make out vouchers and explain usage to clients.
• Maintain records and perform general office duties (including typing).
• Attend meetings as directed by supervisor.
• Assist in other duties as assigned.
• Assist the Washoe County Coordinators with annual community events.
• Be cross trained for and assist other staff as directed by Supervisor.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Four (4) years’ experience in the Social Service arena.
• Ability to speak, read and write in the English language at a high and professional level.
• High degree of confidentiality.
• Data entry experience necessary.
• Ability to operate basic office equipment: fax, copier, printer, calculator, etc.
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills, self-discipline, initiative and a responsible attitude toward clients and other staff members are essential.
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, climb and walk on an intermittent or continuous basis for up to eight (8) hours per day.
• Ability to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
