POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Center Director (ACD) has the responsibility to assist the Center Director in successfully leading all areas of the daily operations of The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (RJKCCC) in Hawaii, with a particular focus on the Program and Membership Departments. The ACD will coordinate the aforementioned activities throughout the Kroc Center in an efficient and consistent manner. In the absence of the Administrator and Center Director, the ACD has full and direct responsibility for any and all venues of Kroc Center operations and programs as assigned by the Administrator. The ACD advises and makes recommendations to the Administrator and Center Director regarding overall departmental and organizational goals, objectives, programs, procedures, and policies. The purpose of the ACD position is to provide a consistent executive and ministry driving force throughout all areas of the Kroc Center and to help represent The Salvation Army Kroc Center in the community.

In regard to the Program and Membership areas, the ACD will provide oversight to the H&W Manager, Aquatic Manager, Athletic Manager, Creative Arts & Education Manager and the Membership Manager. The ACD will develop and review all program curriculum and practices to ensure all programs meets the mission of The Salvation Army, transforms lives and grows and retains membership. The use of various models and methods will be utilized to measure and ensure success in these areas. The ACD will successfully lead all areas of the daily operations of the above programs in an efficient and consistent manner.

The ACD will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. BA or BS in Business or Education or related field OR 5 to 10 years progressive supervisory experience in related field
2. Current CPR and First Aid certification (may be acquired after employment).
3. Experience in coaching/motivating groups & have proven leadership skills.
4. Have at least five years experience in developing, planning, management and supervising Program or Customer Related staff and programs; or related experience in managing large staff and volunteers, including specific experience in program development
5. Have at least five years experience developing and administering budgets for educational facilities or programs and productions.
6. Have successful experience in supervising and managing a professional staff and volunteers.
7. Must live a life of integrity and must practice in their own life the spiritual principles and behavior they advocate to children.
8. Must have a genuine holistic concern for children including their spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical well-being.
9. Have ability to plan, implement and evaluate outreach programs that will be used to draw children to Jesus and consider The Salvation Army as a church home.
10. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to confidently speak in public and in small group settings.
11. Must be able to work professionally with individuals and groups having diverse backgrounds.
12. Ability to work independently, as well as with fellow staff members and community collaborators.
13. Able to recruit, coordinate, and work with a team of volunteers to support these programs.
14. Strong motivational, management and leadership skills needed.
15. Maintain professional attitude and approach in problem solving
16. Ability to develop and administer budgets and to project a vision for financial and programmatic sustainability of the Kroc Center.
17. Ability to effectively understand, reflect and communicate the Christian principle, mission, vision, goals and strengths of The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

1. 5 to 10 Years of Program Experience with Salvation Army Programs or Operations
2. Proven success as a Program Director, Executive Director, or General Manager for a large organization
3. Over five years of experience working with Business and Nonprofit Programs on Oahu
4. Uniform wearing Salvationist in good standing
5. Experience as a Department Head in TSA Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division
6. Experience with planning and leading programs at the Corps and Divisional level
7. Familiarity with traditional Salvation Army programs at the Corps, Divisional, Territorial and International level
8. Extensive experience with Kroc Center Projects at the Divisional and Territorial Level
9. Involvement in Kroc Center Community Development with TSA Advisory Board, Community and Business Stakeholders in the West Oahu Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. The Assistant Center Director (ACD) will give direct supervision to the Aquatic Manager, Health & Wellness Manager, Athletic Manager, Creative Arts & Education Manager, Membership Services Manager and the Program Coordinator.
2. Direct activities in the TSA Kroc Center Program and Membership Services Departments to optimize operational efficiencies under the direction of the Center Director.
a. Develop and implement program plans and budgets with Administrator and Directors
b. Lead in the development of fiscally sound programs
c. Review and make recommendations in hiring, discipline, review, rewarding and terminating of staff.
d. Review staff scheduling with Directors to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
e. Assist the Center Director to ensure compliance with Salvation Army mission, policies and procedures, and the Kroc Center Hawaii Vision to optimize financial, program and ministry performance. Ensure compliance with The Salvation Army Protecting the Mission policies and practices.
3. Attend regularly scheduled meetings at RJKCCC and initiate meetings with appropriate staff, for the purpose of sharing and gathering appropriate information to ensure the fulfillment of Kroc Center Hawaii’s overall goals, vision and mission.
4. Meet regularly with the Kroc Center Administrator and serve on the Kroc Director Team (Senior Leadership Team) to make recommendations and coordinate operation and program issues with sound fiscal/budgetary requirements and measurable program outcomes.
5. Assist the Administrator in conjunction with the Center Director and Community Relations Manager with the development and maintenance of beneficial relationships with government, community and business leaders, funding agencies, and the advisory council.
6. Develop cooperative ventures that engage other community groups in the development of interaction with The Salvation Army Kroc Center Hawaii programs and facility usage.
7. The ACD, Administrator, Community Relations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator will be the key liaisons in providing staff support to related Advisory Council Committees as assigned by the Administrator.
8. Assist the Center Director and review recommendations from all departments and the Human Resources Manager in recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of all TSA Kroc Center Hawaii Team Members.
9. Assist in the writing of job descriptions for staff, instructors, coordinators, attendants, interns, volunteers and support staff of all programs at the Kroc Center.
10. Coordinate with the Training Manager to develop and administer programs and initiatives to provide ongoing training and development of all team members.
11. Maintain clear channels of communication with the Administrator, other directors, support staff and necessary personnel and program participants. This will include the writing of internal memos, email, schedules, flyers, newsletters, social media and one-on-one discussions. These are needed to effectively communicate with staff and in making presentations to senior management, Advisory Council, DHQ and the public.
12. Maintain positive staff relationships with the RJKCCC managers. Must have strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, and the ability to generate, maintain and demonstrate a friendly and enthusiastic positive attitude.
13. The ACD will lead and assist with special Kroc Center projects, which may include seasonal fundraising activities of The Salvation Army during Christmas such as Red Kettle Campaign, Angel Tree, etc. and other duties as assigned.
14. Assist the Kroc Center Director Team with the annual budget preparation, with specific emphasis on the program and membership departments of the Kroc Center.
15. Maintain good public relations for the Kroc Center and its programs, working closely with the Kroc Center Community Relations Manager and Marketing Manager on the promotion of all programs at the Kroc Center.
16. Work in tandem with the Community Relations Manager and program managers in securing and administering grants and funding for Kroc Center programs.
17. Responsible to ensure timely and accurate reporting of required statistical and activity reports. Create and implement departmental reports and systems that will constantly improve efficiencies within the department, while assuring excellent customer service and positive member retention.
18. Respond professionally to requests and inquiries from guests, members and staff, and collaborate well with Managers, Directors, support staff, and the Divisional Team.
19. Attend weekly and monthly team meetings.
20. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
21. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
22. Maintain the Kroc Center Hawaii Code of Ethics policy.
23. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position required a high degree of energy, physically fit and have the endurance to complete the workout. Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting & prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business. Most work will be at The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Hawaii. There will also be times where this employee will be outdoors and travel to other TSA sites or off-campus. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
Cardio and strength training equipment may be needed.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment.
The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver’s license and insured transportation.
On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program.
