Concordia Administrative Information System (CAIS) is a consortium of colleges and universities within the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS) for the operation of a common administrative information system.  CAIS is an entity of the Concordia University System.  CAIS has been serving the administrative computing needs of higher education for over 40 years.

Reporting Relationships

Follows the direction and guidance of the Product Services Manager and team leaders on assigned projects.

Principle Job Functions

  • Works as a member of Product Services team to support and enhance administrative software packages for system schools.
  • Communicates cordially with clients, staff, and vendors via the helpdesk, email, phone, or in person.
  • Gathers and documents client needs and specifications.
  • Prepares high level and detailed designs to meet client specifications.
  • Develops or codes flexible and reliable solutions/computer programs using a variety of languages, tools, and techniques.  Reuses or modifies existing solutions where possible.
  • Corrects problems identified during testing or operation.
  • Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues in baseline and CAIS extension software.
  • Works closely with other team members.
  • Follows established CAIS Standards and Policies.
  • May require travel.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's level in computer science with at least 2 years demonstrated excellence in field.

Essential Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Education and demonstrated experience with relational databases, including writing queries with complex joins and sub-selects in a complex database.  Oracle and/or SQL Server a plus.  Certification a plus.
  • Experience with Object Oriented and structured programming paradigms.
  • Experience with C, Java, Groovy (or Ruby) and Grails (or Rails) desirable.
  • Experience with web-based coding tools such as HTML, XML desirable.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills - written and oral.
  • Strong customer focus and a focus on results.
  • Strong analysis, problem solving, critical thinking skills and troubleshooting.
  • Attention to detail.
