Organization Profile

The primary mission of the LCEF is to provide financial resources and related services for ministry, witness, and outreach of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.  In so doing it shall raise funds primarily through the issuance of notes and other debt instruments.  Its assets shall be used exclusively for the following:  To provide financing and services for the acquisition of sites; the construction of facilities; the purchase of buildings and equipment; operating expenses; professional church worker education; the residential housing needs of professional church workers; and other purposes approved by its governing board consistent with the ministry and mission of the Synod under policies approved by the Board of Directors of Synod.


Position Narrative

The National Lending Team is seeking a qualified candidate to expand and further develop the lending portfolio targeted at agencies in affiliation or formally recognized with the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod. This position requires an individual that is self-motivated and possesses advanced communication and interpersonal skills. 


Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Director, National Lending


Essential Job Functions

  • Work collaboratively with National Lending Team to discover and negotiate potential loans and maintain existing relationships.
  • Provide detailed and timely trip reports summarizing identified needs and opportunities. 
  • Establish relationships with and encourage district vice presidents to monitor and report additional relationship opportunities with non-congregational entities in their respective districts.
  • Assist with collecting borrowers’ financials and other information to ensure borrowers’ loan covenants are met.
  • Follow up with borrowers regarding delinquent payments.
  • Provide detailed loan recommendations.
  • Review credit analyst write-ups for approval recommendation.
  • Attend conferences, meetings and gatherings of various LCMS organizations and trade associations of those affiliated with LCMS (Lutheran Services of America, Senior Living, LEA, ALSS, etc.).


Relationships with

All organizations affiliated with or recognized by The Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod to include:

  • LCMS (Synod, Inc. and its ministries)
  • LCEF and CEF District: Vice President for Church Extension, President and Education and Mission Executives.
  • Concordia Universities and Seminaries
  • Recognized Service Organizations of the LCMS (Includes but not limited to: Elementary and Senior High Schools, Senior Living Facilities, Social Service Agencies, Ministries of Synod).
  • CEF District Congregations
  • Partner church bodies.
  • Position requires extensive travel.   

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in leadership, sales or managerial positions. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business Administration (Finance preferred).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of credit markets and commercial underwriting metrics, specifically focused on non-profit organizations.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Public Speaking and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office environment. 
  • Ability to relate to clergy and lay leadership throughout the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod as well as a variety of other people in the constituency.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and evaluate and provide sound judgment in carrying out duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative in offering LCEF loans and services to existing and prospective clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding of LCEF organizational and operational requirements.
  • Able to work with a minimum of supervision and be self-motivated to complete position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting principles.

  • No direct supervisory responsibility.
