Reporting Relationships

  • Legal and Compliance Specialist reports to the Manager, Legal and Compliance.


General Summary

  • Serves key role in reviewing and managing organization’s contracts, litigation and other legal documents, as well as handling other legal matters.


Essential Job Functions

  • Performs initial legal review and analysis of contracts and provides clear and accurate analysis to reviewing attorney; facilitates contract review and approval process, including performing necessary research and communication.
  • Serves as the organization’s contract manager and records manager.
  • Conducts legal review of Powers of Attorney, probate estate filings and similar documents.
  • Manages lawsuits, subpoenas and other litigation-related matters; works with CPS General Counsel to determine the appropriate handling and response.
  • Assists with health plan documentation and compliance.
  • Performs legal review of communications materials related to employee benefit plans.
  • Works closely with CPS staff from other departments on legal questions related to web portals, websites or otherwise related to electronic information.
  • Provides legal guidance to CPS staff regarding employee benefit plan member and employer issues.
  • Performs legal research and monitors litigation and other legal developments.
  • Analyzes legal developments, assists in resolving complex legal issues, and provides necessary and useful information to CPS staff.
  • Assists with department project management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.  
  • Five years of experience as a paralegal or contracts administrator is required.
  • Experience working in the employee benefits field or with life, health and disability insurance products is preferred.
  • Experience working with health plans, including knowledge of HIPAA is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic document or project management systems is preferred.

  • Command of system and collaborative tools (websites, social media, SharePoint), skilled in use of MS Office suite.
