Organization Profile

  • Concordia Plan Services ‘walks together’ with LCMS ministries by providing quality benefits and services that support the physical and financial health of members and their families.
  • The Disability Service team is responsible for the administration of disability benefits when LCMS workers are unable to perform their own job due to an illness or injury.  This team works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate payment of disability benefits. 
  • The Survivor Service team is responsible for processing life insurance payments to active and retired workers that pass away.  The complex and generous survivor benefits ensure the surviving family is financially supported. 


Reporting Relationships

  • Disability Services Intern reports to a Senior Disability Services Representative. 


Essential Job Functions

  • Assist the Disability Services team with the ongoing administration and management of disability claims.
  • Assist the Disability Services team with benefit review which includes eligibility review, system updates and member inquiries.
  • Assist the Survivor Service team with survivor beneficiary updates.
  • Assist the Survivor Service team with claim intake and administration. 
  • Assist Disability and Survivor Services Area with other projects as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Classified as college Sophomore, Junior or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0, preferred.
  • Majors: Healthcare Leadership, Health Administration, Business Administration, Business Management, Business Communications, Human Resource Management.


Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills demonstrating compassion, patience and empathy.
  • Strong command of system and collaborative tools (MS Office); any experience with an Enterprise Resource System (e.g. PeopleSoft, Infor, Lawson, SAP), a plus.
  • With direction, uses sound methods to solve problems, performs objective analysis, and engages others in analyzing and developing solutions.
  • Participates fully on assigned teams, fosters a collaborative spirit, builds relationships within assigned department, CPS vendors and other CPS interns.
  • Demonstrates a high commitment to values-based customer service approach.
