Organization Profile

The primary mission of the LCEF is to provide financial resources and related services for ministry, witness and outreach of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  In so doing it shall raise funds primarily through the issuance of notes and other debt instruments.  Its assets shall be used exclusively for the following:  to provide financing and services for the acquisition of sites; the construction of facilities; the purchase of buildings and equipment; operating expenses; professional church worker education; the residential housing needs of professional church workers; and other purposes approved by its governing board consistent with the ministry and mission of the Synod under policies approved by the Board of Directors of Synod.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Credit Review Manager.

Essential Job Functions

The Credit Analyst II is responsible for underwriting and evaluating commercial credit requests from new and existing customers, including Loan Resolution Group restructures/refinances.  Underwriting will include financial and credit risk analysis with a concentration on cash flow, collateral evaluation, market data interpretation and identification of key risks and mitigants. 

  • Ability to complete financial statement spreads, testing and monitoring borrower compliance with financial covenants and borrowing bases and ongoing monitoring of the loan portfolio.
  • Responsible for monitoring and collecting covenants and financial requirements for all organizational borrowers.
  • Assist with monitoring and updating loan policies for presentation and approval.
  • Ensure criteria conforms with LCEF’s policies and lending criteria.
  • Ability to confer with potential borrowers or District Vice Presidents to verify financial/underwriting criteria.
  • Ability to review and provide support for review of appraisals, environmental, feasibility studies, etc. as necessary.
  • Respond to inquiries from borrowers/ District Vice Presidents.
  • Provide support and assistance as needed for internal and external audits.
  • Backup coverage for Loan Credit Analyst – Lead when necessary.
  • Ability to assist with testing and implementation of core systems related to credit review department and/or annual review updates.
  • When necessary, attend impaired loan review meetings and work with finance/accounting in determining loan reserves.
  • Assist with mentoring and training Loan Credit Analyst I.
  • Prepare credit analysis and loan request summaries detailing risk degree, loan structure and approval recommendations.
  • Presentation skills and ability to present loan structures to loan committees for approval.
  • Assist with annual credit reviews for all borrowers.
  • Assist with follow up on delinquent loan accounts.
  • Assist with special project and management reports.
  • Follow up with delinquent loan customers.
  • Assist with any and all other assignments or projects, as required.
  • Complies with revisions made from time to time, after mutual consultation in position description.
  • Required to have a flexible work schedule.
  • Position requires some travel.
Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferable in finance, accounting or related field or business administration or equivalent.  Experience may be accepted in lieu of educational experience provided the applicant has a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a credit or financial analyst. Potential and willingness to obtain mortgage license, if required.
