Reporting Relationships

  • Assistant Vice President (AVP) - Investment Research reports to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO).


Essential Job Functions


Investment Management – Public and Private Markets

  • Works directly with CIO, investment consultant, and Investment Committee (IC) of the Concordia Plans Board of Trustees (CP) in administering the investment management programs of the Concordia Plans including, but not limited to, investment strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the CIO with due diligence around evaluating and monitoring external investment managers.  This includes review of key personnel, investment process, operations, document amendments, conflicts, and compliance with investment guidelines and policies for all organizations.
  • Maintains and develops relationships with public and private market managers and attends annual and educational conference meetings as required.


Investment Reporting & Monitoring

  • Identifies and implements analytical tools for Investment Management staff to monitor and evaluate investment performance and portfolio structure for external investment managers.  This includes, but not limited to, Northern Passport system and Private I private equity system.
  • Supports CIO, Director - Investment Operations and other staff as directed by CIO, with presentation materials, data or information requests, and ad hoc or regular analyses.
  • Produces monthly flash report and commentary on trust fund performance.
  • Assists CIO in the management of the Asset/Liability Management (ALM) process for each of the Concordia Plans.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other related field of study and a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible investment experience in institutional asset management.
  • Experience in defined benefit, defined contribution, investment consulting and /or an endowment / foundation setting, preferred.
  • Experience in institutional asset management, real estate or private equity investment, preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance and / or employee benefit plans, preferred.
  • Significant professional designation, certification or degree, such as CPA, CFA, CFP or MBA, is preferred.
