The LCMS Foundation is the primary provider of charitable expertise for The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The Foundation has decades of charitable expertise, helping to ensure that families are provided for and beloved ministries are supported.  The LCMS Foundation provides planned giving and investment management services to the members of the LCMS and all LCMS organizations. 

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Vice President Growth Marketing of the LCMS Foundation.
  • May supervise one member of the Marketing team.
  • Works closely with Gift Planners, and other LCMS Foundation staff to manage projects and achieve goals.

Summary

The LCMS Foundation (ranked #3 in the 2018 St. Louis Post-Dispatch list of Top Workplaces) seeks candidates for the position of Marketing Manager. This position will join a team focused on reshaping the Foundation’s marketing and sales enablement efforts, so that the organization can reach its overall goals in planned gift production, ministry relationships and investments managed by our organization. The ideal candidate should have a foundation in “traditional” marketing skills, including event planning and brand management, but will have significant experience with data-driven marketing, including experience with email and social media marketing, marketing automation and analytics. This position will play a key role in helping implement the Foundation’s marketing strategy to strengthen the brand and deliver optimal donor experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage campaigns and other growth initiatives end-to-end: help design experiments, contribute to campaign strategy, drive execution of the campaign through to completion and ensure all activities are metrics-driven and goal-oriented.
  • Drive integration of marketing activities across multiple marketing channels, including website, online advertising, digital advertising, email and social media.
  • Understand the lifecycle of our donors and investments, and identify opportunities for growth and optimization.
  • Work with data analysts to establish metrics and measurement of campaigns and other marketing activities.
  • Prepare and present reports and recommendations from all measurable marketing activities, using findings to influence future initiatives and to optimize spend and performance.
  • Employ marketing automation and CRM tools to effectively track and nurture leads across a variety of marketing channels.
  • Manage, build and maintain all social media platforms and provide direction to content creation team.
  • Forge strong relationship with the gift planning team, as well as partners in the LCMS, related organizations, agencies and vendors.
  • Manage the Foundation’s involvement in sponsorships, exhibits, conferences and conventions; attend conferences and events to oversee marketing-related activities and to promote the LCMS Foundation and the services we offer.
  • Utilize data and propensity models to build targeted online, e-mail and direct mail campaigns.
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or related field.
  • At least 3 years marketing experience.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Able to understand and work comfortably in a metric-driven environment, including managing marketing initiatives to ensure they are metrics-based and goal-oriented.
  • Expertise across multiple aspects of marketing, including branding, digital strategy and sales support. Experience in B2B marketing is a plus.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders to plan, create, and launch creative campaigns and compelling stories that resonate with audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial nature with the ability to work well in a rapidly changing environment.
  • A data-driven marketing approach, ability to analyze data, apply it to marketing funnels and recognize both friction points and growth opportunities.
  • The ability to think strategically and develop comprehensive, data-driven marketing plans.
  • Hands on experience with email marketing and online advertising, as well as knowledge of best practices for content, subject lines and calls-to-action.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with non-marketing partners, prioritize activities, and keep multiple projects on-schedule.
  • Outstanding written, oral and organizational ability.
  • Prior experience using a marketing automation or CRM platform is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, Photoshop, Mailchimp, Hootsuite (or, other Social Media Management Systems).
