Organization Profile

The primary mission of the LCEF is to provide financial resources and related services for ministry, witness, and outreach of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.  In so doing it shall raise funds primarily through the issuance of notes and other debt instruments.  Its assets shall be used exclusively for the following:  To provide financing and services for the acquisition of sites; the construction of facilities; the purchase of buildings and equipment; operating expenses; professional church worker education; the residential housing needs of professional church workers; and other purposes approved by its governing board consistent with the ministry and mission of the Synod under policies approved by the Board of Directors of Synod.

 

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Chief Lending Officer (CLO)

 

Essential Job Functions

Promote, develop and implement appropriate lending products and services. · Maximize portfolio growth through effective planning, development, and implementation of lending strategies. · Review existing and new relationships with eligible non- congregation borrowers and eligible congregation borrowers in CEF districts · Ensuring overall soundness of loan portfolio, with the ability to identify and develop long term strategies that will include initiatives such as growth and retention strategies. · Ensure consistency with LCEF policies and procedures · Monitor and manage LCEF’s portfolio and communicate performance and concerns to CLO · Supervise direct reports in growth, management and relationship strategies and assist in the negotiation of new credit opportunities.
 

  • As part of LRE’s management team, participate in high level departmental discussions and make recommendations regarding policy decisions.
  • Develop working relationship between Agency Lending and District/ Congregational Lending.
  • Assist all levels of lending production personnel in soliciting loan business from eligible borrowers (RSOs, District and Synod, non- congregational borrowers).
  • Monitor loan prospect pipeline- Review with National Lending team.
  • Monitor and review loan approval submissions with National Lending team.
  • Nurture relationships with CEF execs.

 

Establish and attain specific lending targets by region and product.

  • In coordination with the Chief Lending Officer, develop a lending strategy and oversee its implementation to enable growth and innovation in the loan portfolio.
  • Ensure that lending targets align with organizational mission and strategic plan.
  • Work with Regional and District VPs and RCW Manager to determine appropriate lending and portfolio performance management targets and manage to those targets.
  • Work in coordination with CLO to evaluate new opportunities and products. Ensure that new opportunities pursued align with the organization’s strategic plan and risk appetite.
  • Adjust and adapt lending strategy and targets as markets dictate.
     

Manage the National Lending and Rostered Church Worker team.

  • Work with CLO, and RCW manager to determine appropriate strategies, staffing, and needs to reach lending goals.
  • Ensure that team goals are clear, objectives are achievable, and that staff have lending resources and access to professional development opportunities necessary to do their jobs.
  • Lead, coach and manage lending relationship management personnel
     

Oversee portfolio management.

  • Oversee overall client relationship management in coordination with other service areas (RCW, Ministry Support Investments) and ensure quality customer service.
  • Ensure borrower covenant compliance monitoring and portfolio health is in compliance with lending policy and targets.
  • Actively participate in problem loan management in coordination with Chief Credit Officer and Loan Resolution Group.
  • In coordination with Chief Loan Officer, manage portfolio targets to mutually established goals.
     

Maintain credit underwriting standards and serve as one of the credit approvers.

  • Ensure high quality underwriting in compliance with credit policies and standards.
  • Will have individual credit approval authority and be a member of all loan committees.

 

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • 5 + years of commercial lending experience; preferably with a bank.
  • Real Estate and Consumer Lending experience or willingness to pursue additional training and education.
  • General experience or knowledge in loan pricing, portfolio management, lending and collections.
  • Experience in loan structure and administration including business development.
  • Experience handling audits and federal/state real estate exams to ensure a professional environment with engaged and respectful discussion.
