Organization Profile

The primary mission of the LCEF is to provide financial resources and related services for ministry, witness, and outreach of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.  In so doing it shall raise funds primarily through the issuance of notes and other debt instruments.  Its assets shall be used exclusively for the following:  To provide financing and services for the acquisition of sites; the construction of facilities; the purchase of buildings and equipment; operating expenses; professional church worker education; the residential housing needs of professional church workers; and other purposes approved by its governing board consistent with the ministry and mission of the Synod under policies approved by the Board of Directors of Synod.

 

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Manager, Credit Review.

 

Essential Job Functions

The Credit Analyst II is responsible for underwriting and evaluating commercial credit requests from new and existing customers, including Loan Resolution Group restructures/refinances.  Underwriting will include financial and credit risk analysis with a concentration on cash flow, collateral evaluation, market data interpretation, and identification of key risks and mitigants.  Primary backup for Manager, Credit Review.

  • Ability to complete financial statement spreads, testing and monitoring borrower compliance with financial covenants and borrowing bases, and ongoing monitoring of the loan portfolio. 
  • Ability to ensure criteria conforms with LCEF's policies and lending criteria.  
  • Ability to confer with potential borrowers to verify financial/underwriting criteria. 
  • Ability to review and provide support for review of appraisals, environmental, feasibility studies, etc. as necessary. 
  • Provide support and assistance as needed for internal and external audits. 
  • Assist with monitoring and updating loan policies for presentation and approval. 
  • Prepare credit analysis and loan request summaries detailing risk degree and approval recommendations.
  • Presentation skills and ability to present loan structures to loan committees for approval.  
  • Backup coverage for Manager-Credit Review when necessary.
  • Ability and understanding in order to assist with testing and implementation of core systems related to Credit Review Department and/or annual review updates.
  • When necessary, attend Impaired Loan Review meetings and work with Finance/Accounting in determining loan reserves.  
  • Backup assistance for reviewing and analyzing RCW loan files and Lutheran Federal Credit Union loan submissions, as necessary.  
  • Assist with mentoring and training Credit Analyst I.  
  • Required to have a flexible work schedule.
  • Assist in any and all other assignments or projects, as required.  
  • Complies with revisions made from time to time, after mutual consultation, in position description.     
  • Position requires some travel.
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in finance, accounting or related field.
  • Potential and willingness to obtain mortgage license, if required. 
  • Experience may be accepted in lieu of educational experience provided the applicant has a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a credit or financial analyst. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Spread and analyze corporate financial statements.
  • Underwrite new and renewal commercial loans resulting in sound credit recommendations.
  • Ongoing analysis of borrower's financial performance and annual credit reviews.
  • Monitor and maintain covenant, borrowing base, financial reporting and generate exception and compliance reports.
  • Follow- up with delinquent loan accounts
  • Ensure compliance with Loan Policy and Lending Guidelines.
  • Respond to inquiries from clients.
  • Assist with special projects and management reports.
  • Ability and eagerness to learn all aspects/functions of the credit review department, regardless of current responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadline.
  • Consult with clients on sound budgeting and financial reporting practices.
