Reporting Relationships

  • Financial Wellness Educator reports to Director of Worker Wellness.


Essential Job Functions

  • Promotes financial life-cycle stewardship through seminars, presentations, and one-on-one relationships to encourage both financial stability and wellness among church workers and ministries.
  • Presents and facilitates financial planning and pre-retirement workshops for church workers at all stages of ministry.  
    • Concordia University Education role:
      • Conducts presentations for students at Concordia Universities with emphasis on those entering church work
      • Conducts one-on-one guidance for students with calls
      • Meets one-on-one with faculty/staff at Concordia Universities for personal finance meetings and pre-retirement planning.
    • Assists Director, Retirement Products and Services:
      • Researches and identifies financial wellness tools/vendors
      • Facilitates integration of these vendors with education/marketing
  • Serves as an expert for church workers regarding the use of tools and resources for the purpose of financial wellness. 
  • Collaborates with other educators and the Communications/Marketing department to develop, discover, and utilize educational modules for personal finance and pre-retirement education.
  • Travel required, 30%.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years equivalent experience in communications, marketing or related field.
  • Experience in personal finance and retirement planning.
  • Experience in public speaking. 
  • Experience in employee benefits, non-profit or faith-based organizations preferred.


Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Intermediate knowledge and application of health, pension, and 403(b) / 401 (k) plans and Social Security is preferred. 
  • Ability to communicate employee benefits in clear and understandable detail.
  • Capacity to interpret legal benefit plan documents.
  • Ability to plan, oversee and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Capable of selecting the most effective communication and marketing strategies and tactics for assigned projects.
  • Ability to articulate information simply and concisely in person, over the phone and in writing, and to reflect CPS values (integrity, compassion, excellence, stewardship, accountability) in all internal and external communications. 
  • Interacts effectively with a wide variety of people, respectfully maintains the dignity of others, willingness to offer others personal incite and perspectives, can maintain confidences about personal information shared as examples or questions.
  • Ability to navigate effectively in regulated industry and with complex organizations required.

  • Highly motivated to participate in professional associations and professional development.
  • An active member in good standing of a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregation is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of the structure of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and its related entities is preferred.
