Organization Profile

The primary mission of the LCEF is to provide financial resources and related services for ministry, witness, and outreach of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.  In so doing it shall raise funds primarily through the issuance of notes and other debt instruments.  Its assets shall be used exclusively for the following: to provide financing and services for the acquisition of sites; the construction of facilities; the purchase of buildings and equipment; operating expenses; professional church worker education; the residential housing needs of professional church workers; and other purposes approved by its governing board consistent with the ministry and mission of the Synod under policies approved by the Board of Directors of Synod.

Executive Summary

The Senior Vice-President, Ministry Support promotes the Ministry Support Department as an integral part of the LCEF mission; develops and maintains relationships with members of the Senior Leadership Team, internal and deployed staff, Regional Vice Presidents and other District personnel; identifies the ministry support needs of LCMS congregations and agencies and creates offerings; provides leadership to the staff responsible for the various Ministry Support areas; sets overall department objectives; coordinates the development of an integrated plan, and oversees the fulfillment of the Ministry & Business Plan for the department; coordinates and evaluates Ministry Support offerings; and coordinates the internal communications, marketing, information technology, financial and administrative needs of the department.


Essential Job Functions

  • Leads Ministry Support as to long-term process development, including the three-year Ministry & Business Plan, and its corresponding budget.
  • Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Serves as an Officer of the organization.
  • Interfaces with LCEF Senior Leadership Team at a high level to strategize how the department is woven into Loans and Investment processes and sales.
  • Identifies ministry support needs of LCMS congregations and agencies and works with Ministry Support Team to develop offerings as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with RSOs and other agencies and organizations of the church.
  • Promotes LCEFs Ministry Support as an integral part of LCEFs mission with national and deployed staff and the various ministries of the LCMS.
  • Coordinates the evaluation of services provided to LCMS ministries with the goal of improving the process and developing excellence so LCEF Ministry Support becomes the preferred provider of services to LCMS ministries.
  • Responsible for recruiting, managing, and developing the staff responsible for directing the various functions of the department, including keeping the team motivated and connected to vision, mission, and values.
  • Responsible to the President for the activities of the Ministry Support area of LCEF, which presently includes:
    • Immeasurably More Campaigns for Congregations and Agencies
    • VisionPath and other Ministry Clarity offerings
    • Laborers For Christ
    • StewardPath
    • Architectural Advisory Committee
  • Interfaces with District and National Offices and assists Ministry Support Vice Presidents in building relationships with Regional Vice Presidents and District Vice-Presidents to inform, educate, and encourage the promotion of LCEFs Ministry Support offerings.
  • Works with Director, Ministry Support Advancement, to coordinate the support services required by the Ministry Support Department working with the Marketing, Information Technology, Finance, and Administration areas as follows:
    • Works with LCEF Marketing to coordinate an overall marketing plan to promote the LCEF Ministry Support offerings collectively and individually including market research, brand recognition, customer support, cross selling, and bundling of services as appropriate.
    • Works with LCEF Information Technology to develop the necessary computer systems to track customer information, referrals, data, and metrics with the goal of eliminating redundancy and improving communication and accessibility.
  • Works with LCEF Finance and Administration to develop financial procedures, reports and metrics to account for and evaluate the performance of the service areas collectively and individually.

Education and Experience

  • LCMS rostered church worker.
  • Active member of a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregation.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to articulate, teach, and integrate Biblical stewardship.
  • Experience in developing and implementing ministry tools and programs.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a significant management role with accountability for achievement of financial and operational goals.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate a diverse staff and maintain good morale.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgement in confidential matters.
  • Adept at public speaking and in communicating with those in work relationships, able to relate easily to clergy and lay leadership throughout the Synod as well as with a variety of other people in the constituency.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Provides leadership to the vice presidents, directors and members responsible for VisionPath, Immeasurably More Campaigns for Congregations and Agencies, Laborers For Christ, Architectural Advisory Committee, and other offerings as developed.
