Organization Profile

The Office of National Mission (ONM) coordinates and supports domestic ministries that serve congregations and schools through the districts of the Synod (Bylaw 3.8.2.3)

 

Reporting Relationships

Reports primarily to the Gathering Registrar; responsible to the ONM Youth Ministry Office through the Director of Youth Ministry.

Relates to ONM Youth Ministry Administrative Assistant with regards to office policy and support.

Interacts with other Youth Ministry staff as well as others in the ONM

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Is thoroughly familiar with registration process, computer programs and Gathering procedures and able to administer in the absence of the Gathering registrar.
  • Works specifically with the application and registration of Young Adult Volunteers.
  • Assists in receiving and data entry of the Gathering registrations.
  • Contacts participants concerning any errors or lack of information on registration form and make corrections.
  • Responds to all registration related questions and concerns, including substitutions and cancellations.
  • Maintains accurate registration data for all International participants.
  • Assists in the preparation and handling of the Registration Verification Mailing, Final Confirmation Mailing and other mailings as needed.
  • Assists in administration of housing assignments and tracking completed reservations at hotel properties.
  • Assists in preparation of all Youth Gathering registration data reports in conjunction with the Registrar
  • May be assigned specifically to ancillary registrations such as volunteers, special guests, exhibitors, etc.
  • Participates in Youth Gathering Staff Meetings and ONM Youth Ministry Staff Meetings.
  • Participates in the daily pre-event office management of the Youth Gathering as requested by the Gathering management staff.
  • Participates in pre-conference briefings and meetings with hotel and other event facility personnel at the direction of the Gathering registrar.
  • Attends the LCMS Youth Gathering as part of the Gathering Staff and provides support services specifically to the registrar’s office; assists in the onsite registration of Gathering participants.
  • At the direction of the Gathering registrar, provides assistance in planning and organizing Gathering functions, including meeting room set up, catering, registration, on site management, technical resources, etc.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in youth ministry activities as requested, contributes to Youth Ministry publications, and publically support all LCMS Youth Ministry efforts, attend staff meetings as available, event planning and conferences as directed.    
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Faithful to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Symbols and supportive of the Synod’s Constitution, Bylaws, and policies.
  • High School diploma or equivalent

 

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Familiar with computer technology and able to learn processes and procedures; experience on word processing systems including Microsoft Word, Access and desktop publishing systems.
  • Typing skills of 75 words per minute.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment on confidential matters.
  • Pleasant and cooperative nature in dealing with staff, phone calls and visitors.
  • Command of proper English usage and spelling.
  • Willingness to work as a team member with other secretaries and executive staff.
  • Experience in working in multiple staff situations. 
  • Knowledge of and interest in the goals of ONM Youth Ministry and The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
  • Experience in proofreading manuscripts.
  • Experience in basic bookkeeping.
  • Experience in the youth ministry “network” and/or the ability to effectively learn the system.
  • Experience in other aspects of congregational ministry.
