Reporting Relationships

Business Analyst reports to the Director, Enterprise Business Architecture.



Business Analyst translates business requirements into system requirements so that CPS end users have processes and systems to ensure business success and promote positive customer experience.


Essential Job Functions

  • Participates in interviews and meetings with stakeholders to gather business requirements.
  • Analyzes and documents business requirements, processes and data needs for an area’s current-state and/or proposed future-state system using requirements definitions, process models, data models and other techniques as appropriate.
  • Explores alternatives and potential solutions to business needs, issues and problems.
  • Recommends improvements to support business requirements.
  • In partnership with business and IT resources, transitions business requirements into system requirements.
  • Supports the development effort from the business perspective and obtain business user input on application design decisions when appropriate.
  • Creates test plans that align with the business requirements, performs tests and analyzes results.
  • Maintains training and reference materials.
  • Assists with ticketing requests aligned with the business goals.
  • Gives input into prioritizing release management process.
  • Develops cost benefit / ROI analyses and creates recommendations.
  • Performs feasibility studies and creates business cases.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a business analyst or closely related skillset.
  • Demonstrated success in previous roles.  


Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Knowledge of structured analysis method, tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle, process improvement and / or process reengineering, preferred.
  • Knowledge of one or more business functions such as customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), human resource information systems (HRIS), enterprise content management (ECM), business intelligence / data analytics.
  • Familiarity with business analyst skillset (i.e. requirements gathering, modeling), Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, Visio) and IT and systems analysis concepts and processes.
  • Ability to articulate and present information simply and concisely in person, over the phone and in writing, and to reflect CPS values (integrity, compassion, excellence, stewardship, accountability) in all internal and external communications. 
  • Learns how organizations work; learns and understands formal channels and informal networks; learns and understands the reasoning behind key policies, practices and procedures; learns the organizational culture; learns to navigate LCMS structure and operations.
  • Is energized by change and welcomes new opportunities, quickly learns and adapts to change, personal maturity to evaluate and manage stress.
  • With direction, sets clear goals and objectives, cooperates and participates fully in the coaching process, and actively seeks continuous learning to improve personal and team performance.
