Reporting Relationships

  • Assistant Vice President, Growth reports to the Vice President and Chief Marketing & Growth Officer.


General Summary

  • The AVP, Growth will provide leadership, direction and functional expertise to ensure growth results for the sales and business development teams. They will strategically develop and direct complex and robust customer relationship management programs/plans which ensure that the member’s overall product and service needs are satisfied and achieve the business objectives and growth goals.


Essential Job Functions

  • Strategy and Planning 
    • Is a credible and trusted leader of sales and business development strategic planning within the organization.
    • Works closely with leadership of various internal teams and vendors to ensure continuity, implementation and execution of sales and business development strategy, plans and goals / metrics.
  • Sales and business development program design, development and implementation 
    • Clarifies, implements and builds on the common approach and process for driving all facets of sales and account management across the organization to ensure success.
  • Uses expertise in networking, relationship building, business development and management to develop relationships within / across all levels to retain and grow our base of members within LCMS ministries.
    • Establishes metrics for the Sales and Business Development teams.
  • Leads the Team
    • Attracts, recruits and retains top talent; motivates and leads a high performance team; provides mentoring and development as a cornerstone for succession planning.
    • As a transformative leader, rallies internal teams to achieve highest level of success aligned with Marketing divisional goals and CPS mission, vision and values.
    • Is a sales and business development role-model for team leaders and staff with effective sales and business development behavior, attitudes and values.
    • Serves as coach and mentor for consultative, solution-based account service and business consulting.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; MBA or equivalent master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in sales and/or business development or related field is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing multiple, complex projects.
  • Demonstrated experience developing sales and business development strategies and programs; proven effectiveness in leadership role.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.

  • Experience with organization(s) that have excelled in sales and business development and / or customer experience function(s).
  • Has a strong sales and / or business development portfolio.
  • Experience in consultative selling model.
  • Understands core benefit plans and employee benefit services for individuals, groups and organizations.
  • Ability to identify business trends, changes in market conditions, and competitor activity.
  • Ability to analyze the organization’s competitive position by considering market and industry trends, existing and potential customers (internal and external), and strengths and weaknesses as compared to competitors.
  • Energized by and adapts easily to change; welcomes new opportunities; personal maturity to evaluate and manage uncertainty and stress effectively. Ability to initiate, sponsor and implement change with sensitivity to tradition and history.
  • Ability to navigate effectively in highly regulated industry and with complex organizations; understanding of LCMS structure and operations.
