Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the President of the LCMS Foundation
  • Supervises a team of approximately 20 deployed planned giving staff
  • Member of the Foundation's Management Team
  • Interacts with Foundation Board of Trustees and the board's Gift Planning committee

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates the gift planning program of the LCMS Foundation
  • Develops goals and standards for gift planning activity and production
  • Assumes responsibility for the hiring, orientation, professional growth and effectiveness of gift planners and associate gift planners
  • Manages the partnership relationships and business development activities to enable the LCMS Foundation to serve increasing numbers of LCMS ministries, including districts, congregations, schools, colleges and universities, the seminaries, LMCS auxiliaries and RSOs, etc.
  • Manages the Transfer of Blessings program, the initiative whereby the Foundation provides focused planned giving work with organizations based on contractual arrangement
  • Responsible for the presentation and advancment of financial charitable instruments including but not limited to charitable trusts, endowments, custodial accounts, gift annuity programs, donor advised funds and investment management
  • Interfaces with LCMS staff and staff of other LCMS ministries and organizations, including districts and congregations

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications or related field, or equivalent practical work experience
  • Ten years management experience
  • Active membership in a LCMS congregation
  • Successful performance in results-oriented, goal-driven environment
  • MBA; CFA or CFRE designation helpful but not necessary

  • Engaging personality with the ability to quickly develop relationships with key ministry partners
  • Excellent communication skills, including being comfortable and polished in public speaking in varied settings
  • Ability to manage a team of diverse individuals located across the United States
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
  • Understanding of the LCMS structure
