The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Foundation seeks candidates for the position of Gift Planning Counselor to work in Michigan with our partners in the Michigan District Church Extension Fund.

This position offers the right person an incredibly rewarding opportunity to help Lutherans be wise and generous planners. Specifically, this position assists people in the creation of estate plans that provide the very best gifts to family members and the church organizations they love after they have left this Earth.

This person joins a team of 20 other planned giving staff located across the U.S. who last year helped members of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod create $178 million in charitable estate plans and present day funding to benefit of literally hundreds of LCMS churches, schools and other ministries.

The position is based in Michigan and works with donors there. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Visiting prospects, both individuals and married couples, to learn about their family and financial situation and desire to be generous.  These take place in the home, at church or other locations.
  • Helping these individuals create a plan that provides the very best gifts to their family and to ministries that they love. At the same time, assisting in the development of strategies that can also help them minimize taxes and/or provide income today, according to their desires and needs.
  • Working with other professional advisors including accountants, financial planners, attorneys and others in the design and implementation of these charitable estate plans.
  • Interacting as needed with ministry partner organizations such as churches, schools, colleges and universities, the seminaries, LCMS auxiliaries and RSOs, etc., who are partners with the Foundation and the Michigan District CEF in this gift planning work.

Candidates should have the following credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical work experience.
