Description GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for answering calls and scheduling appointments for imaging and physician to physician referrals in an efficient and timely manner. Additional responsibilities include tracking and working of all incoming referrals according to the urgency and timeline requested.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of Patient Services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Physician and Imaging Referral Coordinator:


Work and track incoming physician and imaging referrals by urgency and requested timeline.

Contact patients to schedule appointment with requested physician or imaging test.

Work Daily physician and imaging report for pending appointments as well as following up with patients that have been added to the Referral Wait List.

Scan all pertinent patient/demographic records into the patient’s chart.

Prepares all necessary paper work for imaging patients to secure referral, when applicable complete pre-certification and associated documentation of scheduled procedures by various payers.

Cover Clerical Support Services Representatives, which includes when applicable, collection co-pay/co-ins amounts due and completion of end-of-day balancing procedures in a timely manner.

Communicate status of appointment to the referring physician.

Monitor upcoming schedules for schedule optimization and make adjustments when necessary.

Attend meeting as required.

For bilingual speaking employees, act as a translator to assist patients and others that may have a need.

Maintains strictest confidentiality.
Requirements EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Customer service skills, computer skills, CPT and ICD-9 coding, benefits verification and general knowledge of medical terminology required. One year prior experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE:

Have knowledge of patient registration procedures.
Knowledge of scheduling physician and imaging appointments.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.




SKILLS:

Operating a computer, copy machine, scanner and multi-line telephone.
Multi-tasking and well organized.
Performing precert, rqi’s and benefits verification.


ABILITIES::

Excellent communication and organizational skill
Employee must maintain a good attendance record
Ability to demonstrate and train other employees in all referral and clerical functions, protocols and procedures.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work may require hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operation, stooping, bending and lifting, and sitting for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard and telephone.
