Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Staff Accountant with public accounting or fixed assets accounting experience to join our growing team!

Role Summary:

The Property Accountant role is responsible for supporting the Property Accounting function by maintaining a record of all company fixed assets and participating in other accounting projects as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • General Ledger. Processing property accounting services for the company in a timely manner. Specific duties include: preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, analytics, metrics and budgeting/forecasting. More specific duties include Recording all fixed assets into JD Edwards fixed asset system, Analyzing and recording depreciation and amortization of fixed assets, Providing assistance with assimilating purchase acquisitions into company records, and Performing physical inventories and reconciliations for company fixed assets and record in SharePoint.

  • Sarbanes-Oxley. Establishing and maintaining appropriate accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

  • Regulatory Compliance. Ensuring compliance with GAAP, IFRS, FERC and other applicable regulatory policies and standards.

  • Internal Communication. Working and communicating with various internal groups, including general accounting, human resources, field personnel, information technology and financial planning.

  • Process Improvements. Acting as a change agent to identify process improvements, implement changes and promote best practices.

  • Reporting. Supporting the financial planning, analysis and reporting efforts of the company, including internal and external reporting.

  • Auditor Support. Assisting with providing accounting support to auditors.

  • Training. Supporting shared services initiatives through training corporate and field personnel on system as well as process improvements.

  • And other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other related discipline required.

  • 2+ years related experience required with a publicly traded organization, experience in public accounting strongly preferred.

  • FERC accounting, fixed assets accounting or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Understanding of accounting procedures, GAAP, internal control procedures and Sarbanes/Oxley compliance required.

  • Expertise in general ledger software required, preferably JD Edwards.

  • Working knowledge of business intelligence software systems required, preferably Cognos.

  • Significant experience utilizing MS Office to perform accounting related tasks is required.

  • Experience with BlackLine, or similar account reconciliation program, a plus.

  • Travel Requirements: 5-10% travel.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • CPA preferred

  • High-level analytical skills required.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including a high degree of discretion and tact is required.

  • Advanced training and presentation skills would be helpful.

  • Must possess personal commitment to integrity, achievement of departmental and business results and outstanding customer services, both internal and external.

  • Strong leadership skills are required with potential to advance to the highest levels within the finance organization.
